Career Area Sales Job Summary The Field Rep Development Program focuses on building the skills and knowledge necessary to partner with Caterpillar Dealers to drive strategy alignment and customer loyalty over an 18–24‑month developmental program. Program Components Customized development plan to understand Caterpillar machines, organizations, and values. 12‑week training program with workshops on product knowledge, soft skills, consulting, and travel in Asia and Europe to visit Caterpillar facilities for technical and business skills. Rotational roles across Caterpillar to learn strategy, services, and products before transitioning to a field position. Placement in the field with the experience and knowledge needed to partner with Dealers and drive strategy alignment and customer loyalty. What You Will Do Build foundational knowledge of Caterpillar, its products, services, and customers. Grow personally and professionally through soft‑skills development and hands‑on technical training. Collaborate with experts in product development, dealer management, marketing, and sales. Work in rotational assignments throughout Caterpillar, learning strategy, services, and products. Ultimately manage assigned territory and serve as a connection between dealers and Caterpillar. Representative Specialization Paths Industry Sales Representative – Counsel dealers to increase performance, provide guidance on customer service improvements, support new product roll‑outs, analyze market activity, and develop promotional programs. Industry Technical Representative – Minimize the technical and commercial impact of customer complaints, implement regional product support strategy, develop dealer technical capabilities, and manage product problem resolution. What You Have Customer Focus Focus on developing and maintaining positive customer relationships. Understand the cost and benefits of customer service practices. Explain why customer satisfaction is important to successful product/service delivery. Effective Communications Describe non‑verbal cues that influence message interpretation. Identify effective and ineffective communication examples. Explain the importance of business communication. Speak/write using correct language, mechanics, and gestures. Problem Solving Explain the value of a disciplined approach to problem solving. Describe problem reporting and escalation practices. Use accepted procedures for problem analysis and resolution. Identify key aspects of problem‑solving techniques in own area. Relationship Management Provide examples of effective business relationships. Identify key business relationships in own organization. Describe the nature of a productive business relationship. Explain benefits of building business partnerships. Value Selling Present products, technology, or services with cost and benefit analysis. Describe general concepts, practices and benefits of value‑based versus product selling. Document proposed solutions for customers. Pursue additional value‑selling education or training. Program Qualifications Accredited university/college degree in Marketing, Science, Engineering, Technical, or a related business/technical field. 1–5 years relevant work experience. Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English. Willingness to travel extensively (50–70%). Willingness to relocate domestically/internationally based on business need.
