Senior Certification Engineer – Electrical / Avionics A Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) role focused on the formulation, development and maintenance of policies, safety regulations and guidance material related to all aspects of flight operations. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed research, risk assessments, collect and analyse safety data, and develop safety policies and guidelines supporting policy proposals. Develop policy proposals relating to flight operations standards and regulatory change matters. Create consultation advisory documents and post-consultation decision documents, including analysis of consultation responses. Produce guidance documents that enable stakeholders to interpret the intent of legal instruments. Provide technical interpretation, advice and guidance on Australian and international aviation rules and policy within the assigned area of responsibility. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Establish and maintain professional relationships with aviation stakeholders and regulatory authorities. (SSO only) Provide ongoing support and guidance to less experienced employees on standards development and other technical matters. (SSO only) Represent CASA in national forums when required. Ideal Candidate – Standards Officer (SO) Demonstrated initiative, analytical, problem-solving, judgement and decision-making skills; able to anticipate future consequences and develop long-term plans. Capability to work under direct guidance from CASA following established regulatory practices and assigned delegations. Experience engaging stakeholders, including regulated entities, on sensitive and complex issues requiring conflict resolution within tight timeframes. Foundational knowledge of Australian aviation safety legislation and guidance materials. Operational experience in flight operations or national aviation authority management. Experience leading or undertaking technical writing projects. People leadership and / or management experience. Ability to manage segments of complex projects. Ideal Candidate – Senior Standards Officer (SSO) Experience leading policy or standards or regulatory development activities, including understanding of government policies, funding arrangements and economic impacts. Strong initiative, analytical, problem-solving, judgement and decision-making abilities applied to complex matters. Capability to work under guidance and direction from CASA following established regulatory practices and delegations. Experience leading projects with multiple stakeholders on sensitive and complex issues requiring conflict resolution within tight timeframes. Comprehensive working knowledge of Australian aviation safety legislation, FAA, ICAO, EASA and related regulatory bodies. Comprehensive understanding of Australia's ICAO compliance requirements relevant to Flight Operations. Operational management experience in flight operations or national aviation authority management. Experience leading or undertaking technical writing projects. People leadership and / or management experience. Ability to manage segments of complex projects. Mandatory Requirements 8+ years' experience in fixed-wing flight operations. Hold or have held an Australian Air Transport pilot licence (Aeroplane), an instrument rating with multi-engine aeroplane endorsement, and a flight instructor rating with Grade 1 training endorsement (or equivalent military experience). In-depth understanding of Australia's Civil Aviation Act, relevant CASRs and CARs, guidance materials and similar aviation regulatory regimes. Mandatory pre-employment screening, police record check, eligibility for Australian citizenship and required security clearance. Mandatory pre-employment alcohol and drug test as part of CASA's Alcohol and Other Drugs Directive and Procedure.
