The Opportunity Ventia Engineering Services (VES) is experiencing an exciting period of growth and change. As a specialist multi‑disciplinary engineering consultancy with over 50 years of local experience, VES delivers outstanding engineering design across the full project lifecycle, from concept design through to operation and end‑of‑life. With recent project success and continuing high demand from clients, VES is seeking to expand its dynamic team of electrical and instrument engineers and designers. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong design experience in Substations, Renewable Energy, and related sectors. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in exciting and technically challenging work across a wide range of industries, including power utilities, solar and hydrogen, oil and gas, mining, water, and infrastructure in both the public and private sectors. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, You Will Work closely with Principal/Lead Engineers to drive detailed design and support the growing Electrical team. Complete and review power system calculations and modelling using industry‑leading software, with a strong understanding of first principles and standards. Take ownership and provide leadership to ensure technical project success. Undertake site audits/inspections and offer expert advice. Develop and review technical project deliverables at a technical authority level. Liaise with project stakeholders, clients, internal engineers, and project managers. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Proven Expertise in detailed design engineering related to electrical substations, renewable energy, and the transmission or distribution sectors. Experience in solar farms and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS) design. In‑depth knowledge of the Australian energy environment, particularly NEM grid connection requirements, the National Electricity Rules, and AEMO/NSP guidelines. Strong understanding of earthing, protection, cable, and HV design. Experience supporting the procurement team with technical knowledge of products, systems, and market sectors within the electrical industry. Proficiency in applying Australian Standards such as AS/NZS 3000, AS2067, AS62271, and relevant design standards and statutory regulations. Strong leadership abilities, a passion for mentoring young engineers, and a drive to ensure project success. Experience in two or more sectors: Renewables, Power Utilities, Substations, Solar, and Hydrogen. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at working with diverse stakeholders. Minimum Requirements An Engineers Australia recognised tertiary engineering qualification. Current RPEQ/CPEng certification, or the eligibility and willingness to obtain these.
