About the role Part-time permanent position (0.9) based in either Milton or Cairns, QLD. Reporting directly to the Team Leader Client Services, you will be responsible for: Delivering flexible one‑on‑one and group counselling and coaching sessions that empower carers, foster partnerships, and encourage community engagement and referrals Providing dementia‑specific counselling using evidence‑based therapies, such as Rogerian and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, in line with ethical and legal standards Upholding the Carer Gateway counselling model by ensuring safe, confidential, and policy‑compliant practices Communicating and maintaining professional boundaries with carers, staff, and stakeholders Delivering consumer‑directed, empowerment‑based services tailored to the unique needs of each individual Screening and assessing clients to ensure timely and appropriate support is provided Contributing to service evaluation and improvement by using data, feedback, and reflective practices Meeting programme KPIs, maintaining compliance with standards and guidelines, and undertaking other duties as directed by the Team Leader What is in it for you? About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with the following: Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate specialty area such as Psychology, Social Work or Counselling with qualifications recognised in Australia Registration with, or eligible for membership of, a relevant professional body or association (e.g. Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Australian Counselling Association, Australian Association of Social Workers or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) (Level 2 accreditation or above, a Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia Provisional Accreditation or above or an Australian Association of Social Workers accreditation ? ordinary member) Supported carers using evidence‑based practices to sustain their role and enhance wellbeing and personal identity Worked directly with people with dementia and their families through diagnosis and progression Liaised with service providers to coordinate care and support Assessed carer’s health and wellbeing to identify and deliver appropriate support Our culture statements We are aligned in ourPurpose We lead with ourHead andHeart We work togetherCollaboratively About us Dementia Australia is the national peak body and source of trusted information, education and services for the more than 433,300 Australians living with dementia, and the more than 1.7 million people involved in their care.
