Senior Backend Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing Product & Engineering team, working within one of our cross-functional squads to scale the core services and architecture that power our platform. This is a high-impact role where you’ll take ownership of backend execution, bring technical depth, and deliver reliable systems that make a difference for our users. Each squad has ownership of parts of our platform, and you’ll collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other backend specialists to deliver end-to-end solutions. Our Tech Stack: Frontend: React & TypeScriptBackend: Ruby on Rails with GraphQL, and Python with WebSockets & Protobuf Job requirements We’re looking for someone who thrives on accountability, loves solving complex technical problems, and brings genuine craft to their engineering. Proven backend development experience in Ruby on Rails or Python (bonus if you’ve worked with both). Skilled in API design, database management, and backend performance optimisation. Strong collaboration skills across product and engineering functions. Passion for building scalable, maintainable systems. Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, and deployment automation. Bonus if you have previous experience in B2B SaaS, legaltech, or professional services. Job responsibilities Design and develop backend services and APIs in Ruby on Rails and Python Architect scalable, secure, and performant systems that integrate seamlessly with our frontend apps Optimise databases, APIs, and infrastructure for speed, reliability, and resilience at scale Troubleshoot production issues, deliver long-term fixes, and drive continuous improvement Champion backend best practices in testing, monitoring, and security Collaborate within your squad (Product, Frontend, Backend, Design) to deliver complete solutions with real customer impact Mentor and guide junior engineers, raising the bar for backend craftsmanship Explore and introduce new frameworks, tools, and approaches that bring value to the team Benefits Remote-first – With Nexlers all around the world, we’re not bound by location.
