SpendWatt is building a next-generation energy and electrification platform used by sales and service organisations to help households and businesses transition to clean, low-cost energy. We're looking for a Senior Back End Developer to join our growing engineering team. This is a key role where you'll work across the full SpendWatt platform—supporting all client implementations, delivering new features, and helping shape the technical foundations of our system as we scale. You’ll collaborate closely with our CTO (based in Tunisia), our Melbourne team, and distributed developers across France and Tunisia. This role is ideal for a highly capable Python engineer who enjoys problem‑solving, clean system design, and working in a fast‑paced, purpose‑driven environment. Key responsibilities Build, maintain, and optimise backend systems using Python (5+ years’ experience required) Develop robust APIs and backend services that integrate with our front‑end applications and partner platforms Work closely with front‑end, UX, and product teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance features Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code following best practices Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical planning Contribute to system improvements, refactoring, and documentation Collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones About you (Must‑haves) 5+ years’ professional Python experience Strong background in backend engineering (APIs, data flows, architecture) Based in Melbourne, with ability to work hybrid and join local collaboration sessions Must have Australian work rights Nice‑to‑haves Experience with Angular or similar modern front‑end frameworks Experience with Jira and Confluence Experience working with remote or distributed teams Interest in energy, sustainability, or impactful tech SpendWatt is a fast‑growing SaaS company helping organisations simplify electrification and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
