About usQueensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.The mega project encompasses managing the design and construction of dams, an underground power station, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, as well as substantial upgrades to roads and bridges.The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.PurposeThe Mechanical Project Engineer will have a versatile role within our program of projects with a focus on providing engineering expertise to support all mechanical activities from an Asset Owners perspective and associated with a pumped storage facility. The role responsibility will ensure sound delivery through contribution to the design, reviews, surveillance, site attendance, problem solving, implementation of quality assurance and asset management strategies for the mechanical infrastructure on our project.The role will also ensure the successful management and delivery of asset operational readiness deliverables and activities.Key AccountabilitiesThe Project Engineer accountabilities are:Be a role model on site. Ensure familiarity, compliance, and the ability to undertake duties under the relevant Health and Safety regulations, promoting a culture of awareness within the team.Provide technical support both on-site and off-site.Contribute to the specification and review of designs to ensure compliance in project components, including drawings, reports, specifications, and studies.Support the Senior Engineers with the roll out of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment to the site in accordance with the Safety, Quality and Schedule requirements of the Project.Report writing including site status, measurement and issues.Offer oversight or coordinate responses to technical issues, risks, or information requests from contractors.Manage the technical aspects and resources of other staff, including engineers, graduates, interns, consultants, and contractors when necessary.Define and develop asset management strategies, standards, guidelines, monitoring, testing, and inspection programs for the ongoing maintenance and operational requirements of this asset class.Facilitate schedule and planning updates with delivery partners.Conduct on-site safety and progress inspections and assist with QA/QC. This may include inspections of key equipment, attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests and attendance at key installation/commissioning events.Liaise with the Project Manager to stay informed of all developments associated with the project.Perform other project engineering and project management-related duties.Champion a safe, proactive, quality, timely and innovation-focused culture.Position RequirementsQualifications and Licenses:Essential:• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.Knowledge and Skills:Minimum 2+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.Knowledge of relevant codes and Australian standards.Good working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Regulations.Enthusiasm for learning and major Electromechanical construction activities.Competence in the evaluation and interpretation of data.Strong all-round communication skills.Desirable:Experience working on major infrastructure projects within Government-owned entities.Experience with power, pumped storage schemes mechanical components.Familiarity or experience with working with authorities such as Power distribution or communicationsWhat we offer12.75% superannuationHealth and Wellbeing initiatives, which include our Employee Assistance Program, Mates in Construction Membership and discounted health insurance.14 weeks paid Parental LeaveHow to applyTo play a key role in one of Australia’s most significant energy investments please don’t hesitate to apply via our LiveHire Portal by clicking the ‘Apply’ link.
