About usQueensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.PurposeThe Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical, will have a versatile role within our QH program of projects. The roles focus will be providing engineering expertise to support all mechanical activities from a Project Delivery (Client)perspective. The primary focus will be on the Borumba project Hydro Power mechanical assets that is inclusive of intake gates and dams mechanical works. The roles responsibility will ensure sound delivery through contribution to the Owners Requirements, ECI process, design reviews, implementation quality assurance, construction support, and asset management strategies for the mechanical assets on the project.Key AccountabilitiesThe role accountabilities are:Provide technical advice and reviews for delivery by design service providers.Facilitate and manage the roll out of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment to the site in accordance with the Safety, Quality and Schedule requirements of the Project.Support co-ordination of technical advice from Owner Engineers or Specialist advisors.Contribute to specifications and reviews of designs ensuring compliance in the components of the project, including drawings, reports, specifications, and studies.Advise or co-ordinate responses to technical issues, risk or information request from construction partners.Ensure construction partners have suitable technical drawings and engineering documents to undertake the works and demonstrate Quality Assurance of the implementation.Conduct on-site safety and progress inspections to ensure engineering standards are met.Assist with project QA/QC and commissioning systems and documentation. This may include inspections of key equipment, attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests and attendance at key installation/commissioning events.Providing program support and resolving construction issues whereby there may be impact to mechanical assets.Provide technical direction to the broader QH project team, including, consultants and contractors.Attend equipment factory acceptance testing or inspections (as required)Communicate site status to the Project team and provide inputs into relevant permits and approvals.Define and develop asset management strategies, standards, guidelines, monitoring, testing and inspections programs for the ongoing maintenance and operational requirements for this asset class.Liaising with the Project Managers and broader project team to keep informed of all developments associated with the project.Report writing including technical status, measurement and issues.Being familiar and compliant, and able to undertake duties under the relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team.Champion a safe, proactive, quality, timely and innovation-focused culture.Compliance Comply and role model the behaviours and expectations set out in the Code of Conduct which brings to life the organisations values, culture and commitment to customers and the community. In addition, all employees are to:Adhere to all authorities and transactions as stipulated;Familiarise and comply with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices;Undertake any additional duties, provided such duties are within your skills, experience and qualifications, in accordance with your level and workload capacityEssential:Degree in Mechanical EngineeringAt least 10 years of Project Engineering experienceKnowledge and Skills:Proven work experience on complex mechanical systems and construction projects including strong understanding of Australian Standards.Experience with major water or power infrastructure assets and associated hydraulic or electrical control systems.Experience of reviewing complex mechanical designs.Competent in the evaluation and interpretation of testing and commissioning data.Strong technical report writing with clear verbal communication skills.Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within the team.Able to lead the review of technical submissions with key accountability for their own design.Awareness of health and safety, commercial and contractual risks.Excellent written and verbal communication skills to fulfil responsibilities.Desirable:Experience in delivering major infrastructure projects within Government owned entities.Experience on projects utilising Australian standards.Hydro or pumped storage project experience.RPEQ or ability to be registered in Queensland.Special Requirements and Working ConditionsMay be required to work extended hours and be flexible in order to meet variable business requirements.Site domestic travel will be required to support project delivery.International travel for reference site visits, design workshops or equipment manufacture factory inspections.Required to be able to respond to site for significant incidents and emergencies.What we offer12.75% superannuationHealth and Wellbeing initiatives, which include our Employee Assistance Program, Mates in Construction Membership and discounted health insurance.14 weeks paid Parental LeaveHow to applyTo play a key role in one of Australia’s most significant energy investments please don’t hesitate to apply via our LiveHire Portal by clicking the ‘Apply’ link.
