Media and Communications Advisor

Our client is a dynamic local council committed to strengthening and supporting the local community through exceptional service delivery and meaningful engagement. Working within the Strategic Communications team, this position plays a vital role in shaping and sharing Council's story with residents, media and key stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager Strategic Communications, the Media and Communications Advisor coordinates and delivers Council's internal and external communications, media relations and social media initiatives. You'll collaborate across departments to craft compelling messages, manage media enquiries, and drive brand reputation through strategic communication. Contract November - February with the potential for extension/permanent transition Competitive hourly rate - $51.95/hr + Super Modern Western Sydney office Diverse projects - every day is different Opportunity to grow within local government communications About the Role As a Media and Communications Advisor, you will be responsible for the following: Preparing engaging media releases, speeches, newsletters, and online content Managing media enquiries and developing responses for public release Developing and executing communication plans for Council projects and initiatives Building strong relationships with media outlets and internal stakeholdersMonitoring and managing Council's social media presence and reputation Ensuring all communication aligns with Council's strategic goals and brand standards Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or similar Proven experience in corporate communications, media or public relations Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and evaluate communication strategies Strong judgement and the ability to manage sensitive or complex issues Current Class C Driver's Licence Desirable: Knowledge of the Local Government sector will be highly regarded.
