Department of Education Victoria – Shepparton VIC The host school for the Shepparton English Language Centre (SELC) since 2008 is St Georges Road Primary School in the south of Shepparton. The School Principal has overall responsibility for the school and for the SELC, which operates as a sub‑school of the host school. The SELC is located in the northwest corner of the St Georges Road Primary School site in a discreet building formerly used by the Shepparton Schools Support Centre and two relocatable buildings. The complex of buildings is Campus 2 of St Georges Road Primary School. The SELC provides intensive English tuition to new‑arrival primary and secondary students in the Shepparton Schools District, as well as an EAL Cluster Program that supports local EAL students in outlying schools. The target enrolment is 65 students per year, with yearly fluctuations between 52 and 172. New‑arrival primary and secondary students attend the Centre full time for 6–12 months, depending on visa status and individual learning needs. Proviso for Lower Student Numbers If student numbers decline during the year, staff expertise may be reallocated to part‑ or full‑time work in mainstream schools. Overarching School Goals Provide intensive English language tuition for newly arrived students. Create a nurturing, caring and safe learning environment to foster belonging and connectedness. Teach a general knowledge of Australia and an understanding of its culture through English acquisition. Position Title Office Administrator and Multicultural Education Aide (MEA) – Shepparton English Language Centre. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated highly efficient time management and organisational skills and the capacity to develop procedures and guidelines in relation to the work area. SC2 Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to the school community and all stakeholders. SC3 Demonstrated experience in the use of management systems and computer use relevant to the position. SC4 Capacity to work co‑operatively with teachers, education support staff, students, parents, tradespeople and external agencies. SC5 Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth for self and others. Administrative and Operational Support General Administration: Undertake general office duties such as filing, photocopying and data entry. Facilities Management: Coordinate building and grounds maintenance, including repairs, improvements and renovations. Manage and purchase furniture. Create grounds plans for the Language Centre and host school in liaison with school leadership. Logistics and Planning: Organise and supervise student transportation, including bus usage. Assist with the planning and implementation of school events and activities. Inter‑Organisational Liaison: Act as a liaison between the Language Centre and host school. Support the Language Centre Co‑ordinator. Safety and Compliance: Oversee safety protocols and conduct OH&S inductions. Work with the OH&S Co‑ordinator of the host school. Technology and Training: Operate and train others in routine use of office equipment and computer systems. Student Welfare and Support Student Onboarding: Welcome and orientate new students and their families. Facilitate student enrolments, including interviewing families, paperwork and data entry. Act as a resource to develop staff knowledge of students' backgrounds and the issues they face. Student Well‑being: Provide guidance and support to students with social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Collaborate with external agencies to address student needs. Family Engagement: Facilitate communication between students, teachers and parents. Assist students and their families with transitions between educational settings. Help involve parents in school activities and programs. Community Engagement: Assist school personnel in promoting multicultural events and activities in allocated schools to raise awareness and celebrate diversity and cultural differences. Attend local, regional and state‑wide meetings as requested by the allocated schools. Classroom Support and Instruction Direct Student Support: Assist teachers in the classroom, translating instructions and clarifying concepts. Provide individualised and small‑group support to students with varying English language proficiency levels. Curriculum Support: Assist in the preparation and delivery of EAL teaching materials and resources. Accompany teachers and students on educational excursions. Support the Mathematics teacher from primary to secondary levels. Assist with the preparation of EAL teaching aids and resources to support curriculum delivery. Who May Apply Certificate III in Education Support. Proficiency in four languages: English, Dari/Hazaragi, Hindi and Urdu. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Completed and passed Further and Advanced Mathematics at VCE Year 12 level. Experience working with both primary and secondary aged students. Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds. Driver’s licence required.
