Your impact Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, in this position you will be responsible for short to long-term geotechnical planning, design, remediation and operational support for Newmont’s Boddington mine operations, a geotechnical challenging deep open pit gold mine. As part of our team you will Provide leadership and supervision for a small team who specialise in technical work including structural geology, instrumentation and monitoring Directly undertake a variety of technical geotechnical work Work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary engineering and cross functional teams on site Maintain Geotechnical and associated models i.e. Geological, Structural, Rock Mass, Hydrogeological Plan, implement and maintain geotechnical data collection including monitoring, mapping, drilling, logging, groundwater monitoring, wall control evaluation, field testing and laboratory testing Assess material characteristics and derive parameters Establish, perform and maintain geotechnical modelling, geotechnical assessments and geotechnical slope design recommendations for interim and final pit walls Ensure geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological and drainage aspects are considered in slope design and short to long-term mine planning Collate and analyse monitoring and slope performance data Comply with site Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and provide updates on the GCMP as required Provide remediation and stabilisation design recommendations and implementation where required Facilitate integration of geotechnical, geological and hydro-related data in design and construction of stable open pits and waste dumps Undertake regular monthly and quarterly reporting Develop and implement innovations and seek continuous improvement Assist in the development of the annual geotechnical budget Assist in providing training to members of the team Adhere to Newmont’s quality control processes and safety standards. Prerequisites for your success in the role Degree qualification in Engineering (Geotechnical) or related discipline Engineering Australia Chartered or Competent Person Status current accreditation Significant geotechnical engineering experience in the mining industry and exposure to hard rock mining Skills in rock mass characterisation, slope design, geotechnical monitoring, data collection and reconciliation Knowledge of geotechnical risk mitigation and best practice safety standards in the mining industry Demonstrated project delivery experience in open pit mining including Pre-Feasibility Studies, Feasibility Studies and detailed design Competency in pit wall condition evaluation, reconciliation and influencing blasting strategy in line with continuous improvement Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary engineering and broader site-based functional teams Skills in Instrumentation and Monitoring systems – i.e. slope stability radars, prism monitoring and ground vibration Skills in 3D visualisation software – i.e. Deswik, Leapfrog, MineSight, etc Skills in geotechnical modelling software – i.e. Rocscience, GEM4D, TRAJEC3D etc Skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint – i.e. geotechnical data manipulation, interpretion and presentation Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia Current and valid class Australian Driver Licence.
