Project Communications & Engagement Manager Tasmanian Irrigation is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice. Our mission is to deliver water where and when it’s needed to support sustainable agricultural growth in Tasmania. We own and operate 19 irrigation schemes across the state, and we have $1.3 billion of new irrigation projects in development. We deliver water to our customers at the lowest sustainable price, while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment. Tasmanian Irrigation has the capacity to deliver 156,000 megalitres of high surety water each year, irrigating more than 133,000 hectares of land. For every 1,000 megalitres of water delivered, there is up to $3 million in on-farm investment, up to $7 million in annual economic uplift, and up to 30 direct and indirect jobs created. All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum. ABOUT THE ROLE Tasmanian Irrigation is searching for a Project Communication and Engagement Manager. In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of strategic, consistent and well-planned communication and stakeholder engagement across Tasmanian Irrigation’s major infrastructure projects. Working across significant projects including the Greater South East Irrigation Scheme, Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme and Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme, you will ensure landholders, communities, government partners and industry stakeholders are informed, supported and actively engaged throughout every phase of project planning, approvals, design and construction. Operating as a trusted advisor within the project delivery environment, you will strengthen organisational capability by embedding best-practice engagement approaches, managing communication risks and elevating the visibility and impact of Tasmanian Irrigation’s work. Your leadership will directly contribute to the successful delivery of more than $650 million in irrigation projects, enhancing outcomes, protecting organisational reputation and building stakeholder confidence. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED These skills and experience are essential to success in the role: Strategic thinking with the ability to design, implement and refine communication and engagement strategies that support complex project delivery. Strong stakeholder engagement capability, including building trusted relationships with landholders, community groups, government agencies and industry partners. Proven ability to identify emerging issues, provide sound advice and implement effective mitigation or engagement responses. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, producing clear, high-quality content for diverse audiences in a range of formats. Confidence representing the organisation at community forums, briefings and events, including facilitating discussions and managing enquiries. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to operate independently, show sound judgment and deliver high-quality outputs in a fast-paced project environment. We’re looking for candidates who bring: A minimum of five years’ experience in communication and engagement roles, ideally within government or project-based environments. Expertise across contemporary communication practices, including media management, social and digital content, and event delivery. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify risk and opportunity, and provide strategic advice. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants. Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline and/or formal training in stakeholder engagement. Desirable skills include experience in water, agriculture or infrastructure construction sectors. As the Project Communication and Engagement Manager, you will work closely with the Project Development and Delivery team, Environmental and Health and Safety teams, other Tasmanian Irrigation technical staff and external stakeholders to deliver project support.
