Remote Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia Senior Network Engineer (PROJ-4597) Job Description Remote is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join the team in ASD, supporting technical systems integration for ADF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The role operates with a high level of independence, providing subject matter expertise, sound judgement and specialist advice across policy, project and service delivery functions. The Senior Network Engineer will develop, implement and review relevant policies and procedures, manage complex technical issues, and lead high-priority projects that influence strategic or operational outcomes. They will also be responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships, understanding expectations and concerns, and communicating approaches to achieve successful outcomes. (LH-05236) Key Duties And Responsibilities Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees. Establish and lead network planning for own area of responsibility and designs the infrastructure necessary to provide the network services to meet service level agreements. Maintain and apply detailed knowledge and experience related to the current Defence and industry accepted network hardware and software products. Has expertise in change management and applies this to ensure the continuity of network operations and business functions during network installation or integration tasks. Build and sustain relationships, liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across Defence and other organisations. Motivate and mentor teams, aligning complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results. Evaluate projects to understand critical factors for success and engage in activities to achieve continuous improvement. Analyse very complex network engineering issues, applying expertise to identify and recommend courses of action. Responsible for significant aspects of the installation, upgrade, operation, control and effective use of local and wide area networks for the communication of data, voice, audio, text or images. Undertake network installations in accordance with detailed design documentation and guidance. Technical Skills Several years experience in a Network Engineer or similar role Strong leadership experience and skills as a technical leader Excellent organisational, communication and negotiation skills Qualification in relevant technical disciplines Experience providing technical directions to projects delivering complex software solutions Strong understanding of network fundamentals such as protocols, architectures, devices, topologies and standards Experience producing design documentation essential Essential Criteria Network Design: Level 5 (SFIA) Produces, or approves network providers', network architectures, topologies and configuration databases for own area of responsibility. Specifies design parameters for network connectivity, capacity, speed, interfacing, security and access, in line with business requirements and perform configurations and connections against stated requirements. Assesses network-related risks and specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures. Creates multiple design views to address the different stakeholders' concerns and to handle both functional and non-functional requirements. Infrastructure Design Level 4 (SFIA) Leads the design of complex infrastructure systems to deliver comprehensive design solutions. Provides guidance on recommended practices and design standards. Reviews and validates design specifications and documentation. Checks that designs are scalable, reliable and secure, aligning with business and technical requirements. Problem management: Level 4 (SFIA) Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services. Determines problem fixes and remedies. Collaborates with others to implemented agreed remedies and preventative measures. Supports analysis of patterns and trends to improve problem management processes. Desirable Criteria Demonstrated experience in providing technical services to Defence major projects and ADF ISR capabilities is highly desirable.
