It is part of the High Intensity OSHC Initiative, which delivers outside schools hours care to children and young people with disabilities and their families at Victorian government specialist schools for free. The service will be operating after‑school care and vacation care. The OSHC Educator will be located at Ashwood School – 47-61 Montpellier Road, Ashwood, Victoria. Ashwood School is a co‑educational specialist school for primary and secondary aged students diagnosed with a mild intellectual disability. It is widely recognised as a centre of excellence and a school of first choice in the field of specialist education. All students are assessed as having a diagnosis of a mild intellectual disability and are funded through the Department of Education’s Program for Students with Disabilities. The Ashwood School community is diverse with students coming from a wide geographical area including the municipalities of Monash, Boroondara, Manningham, Stonnington, Whitehorse, Glen Eira and Bayside. Students are fully supported to learn in a nurturing yet rigorous school environment. All students have an Individual Education Plan based around their specific educational needs. Goals in all curriculum areas are informed through the use of data from a range of assessment tools and teacher judgment against the Victorian Curriculum and VPC Curriculum. Students are taught by a highly qualified teaching team, each of whom is a specialist in provision of inclusive educational practice. Close consultation with parents and carers at SSG meetings ensures there is a team approach to the implementation of each student’s individualised educational programme. The School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program is implemented and embedded into our school’s RIPOR programme. This whole‑school framework assists with the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment. The proactive systems within the school assist us to define, teach, review and support students to practise safe and engaged behaviours underpinned by our school values and RIPOR expectations: Be a Learner, Be Safe, and Be Responsible. Student wellbeing is prioritised through provision of a safe, inclusive and connected school community. Our student wellbeing team focus on engaging our students in their learning and establishing their sense of belonging through implementation of developmentally differentiated supports designed to enhance social‑emotional skills and mental health. Student leadership is prioritised with student leaders appointed in both the Primary and Secondary School in the specialised curriculum areas of sport, visual arts, performing arts and sustainability. Four school captains provide student leadership across the school, with facilitation of the weekly whole school assembly a highlight. Well established inclusive practices support our students and their families to feel valued as important members of our school community. The school holds great pride in the relationships we have built with all members of our local and wider community and this was recognised as one of our four highlights through the self‑evaluation process. Selection Criteria SC1: Demonstrated capacity to lead, coordinate and manage the delivery of an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service. Previous experience working in a leadership role in an OSHC or childcare setting. SC2: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to develop and deliver an OSHC service in line with standard procedures and school policy. Ability to effectively manage a team to provide high quality of service to meet the needs of students with complex disabilities. SC3: Demonstrated subject matter expertise in education and care of children and young people, understanding of complex disabilities and ability to develop and ensure the delivery of an educational programme to provide high quality OSHC experiences. SC4: Demonstrated capacity to ensure service operations are delivered in a compliant manner, including the management of records, correspondence and planning for an OSHC service. Ability to act as the key point of contact and manage the flow of information about OSHC to students, families and school staff. SC5: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with children and young people and their families, school staff and OSHC service staff. Effective communication and able to appropriately share information, to support school leadership successfully establish, deliver and lead the OSHC service. Role The High Intensity Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) Manager will apply a depth of knowledge and a broad range of skills to establish, deliver and lead a team of educators to provide after‑school and vacation care service to benefit the children, families and community of Ashwood School. As the person in day‑to‑day charge of the service, the High Intensity OSHC Manager is a responsible person under section 162 of the National Law. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high‑quality service, through managing the administration, budget and operations of the OSHC service, liaising effectively with school staff and leadership to ensure the service delivers effectively to meet community needs. Leading a team of OSHC Educators, you will be responsible for ensuring the inclusion of all children and young people within the service, including those with additional care needs. Through programming and delivery of the service, you will ensure a safe, healthy and stimulating environment at the service for children and young people aged 5–18 with intellectual disabilities. To do so, you will lead, develop and implement all appropriate service policies and procedures, and ensure continuous quality improvement through reflective practice. The High Intensity OSHC Manager works directly with the school leadership team to ensure effective communication and collaboration between the service and the school. With experience in building and maintaining strong working relationships, you will apply specialist expertise in the delivery of education and care to work with parents and families to engage with OSHC and build the service. To develop the team of OSHC Educators, you will provide leadership, training and development opportunities, and ensure all staff at the service apply appropriate knowledge, training and professional concepts in the supervision and care of children and young people. In managing the service requires the High Intensity OSHC Manager to work with a high level of professionalism, manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality with minimal supervision. The position reports directly to the Ashwood School Principal. Responsibilities Once established, the OSHC Manager will oversee the day‑to‑day operation of the service. This involves developing, implementing and evaluating the educational programme and delivery of the service. Other key responsibilities include: Proactively planning and ensuring educational programming, aligned with the My Time Our Place educational framework, is delivered in line with the interests, needs and goals of children and young people attending the service and evaluation is implemented. Managing educators and ensuring effective supervision, care and engagement of children and young people in attendance at the service. Managing, monitoring and undertaking the preparation of nutritious food for students ensuring this is done in a healthy and safe manner in accordance with Food Handling Health and Nutrition guidelines, policies and procedures. Recruiting and providing a relevant orientation process for all new educators to join the OSHC team to clearly inform them of the requirements and other procedural aspects of the day‑to‑day provision of the programme. Delivering, or ensuring that all staff undertake, relevant professional development and in‑role training including child protection training, medical training, including additional training as required based on children’s needs. Conducting regular monitoring and compliance of the service, ensuring maintenance of records and general service administration including but not limited to the completion of medical records, collection of data, staff records and other recording‑keeping requirements. Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures specific for the service as set out by the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010, Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011, and as required. Communicating and collaborating with families, including coordinating and maintaining enrollments of children and young people in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 and Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011 and policies and procedures of the service. Collaborating with the school’s Business Manager on the OSHC budget requirements provided and account for expenditures in accordance with school procedures to ensure food, resources and supplies are maintained. Provide regular reports to the School Council/OSHC Sub Committee as required.
