Principal Spatial Analyst

Our client is currently seeking a Principal Spatial Analyst to join their Strategic Policy team to transform geospatial data into actionable insights on key digital and data policy areas, such as telecommunications and digital inclusion, to inform improved decision making for both policies and programs. As the Principal Spatial Analyst, you will: Lead and drive spatial capability within the team comprehend and interpret complex telecommunications, infrastructure, land, population, and other geographical datasets to support telecommunications co-investment planning at both regional and local levels. Lead components of the team’s program of works (both business as usual and project based) including but not limited to scoping, resourcing and delivery. Scope, deliver, report, and monitor mapping and data requests from customers within and external to the department to deliver high quality outputs and advice under various regular pressures. Implement, maintain and adhere to data governance policies to ensure data is secure, accurate, available, and usable. Lead the optimal use and application of GIS technologies in the team, including Esri’s ArcGIS Pro for authoring content and ArcGIS Online for publishing online content. Create and maintain effective working relationships with key project stakeholders and data custodians, including but not limited to other state agencies, local governments, infrastructure agencies, telecommunications industry peak bodies, technical experts and developers. Work collaboratively with senior management, project teams, government agencies and external stakeholders to ensure regional and spatial planning project outcomes are achieved. What you’ll bring to the role: Proven work experience as a technical leader in the use of spatial technologies and data governance. Proven work experience in managing spatial data projects from concept to completion. Proven work experience in applying advanced spatial analysis to gain actionable insights. Proven work experience in the science of map making. Relevant work experience as a technical leader in the use of data and spatial technologies in the field of land use planning is highly desirable. Proven expert knowledge and understanding of Esri’s ArcGIS Suite and database skills. Desireable requirements: A degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Spatial Science, Data Analytics, or a related field. Certifications in GIS (e.g., Esri Technical Certification) or data visualisation tools. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R for geospatial analysis and SQL.
