Treasury is looking for talented, team-oriented, and highly motivated staff to fill positions in the Central Forecasting Team of the Macroeconomic Conditions and Population Division (MCPD). Treasury’s Central Forecasting Team (CFT) produces the economic forecasts and projections that underpin the Australian Government’s economic narrative, working with teams across MCPD and Treasury. This is a great opportunity to lead the team that drives the production of the Government’s official macroeconomic forecasts, help frame the macroeconomic narrative, and support government decision making. About the Roles The Directors of CFT leads a talented and driven team that also develops and maintains the forecasting infrastructure, and the delivers several projects aimed at improving Treasury’s analytical frameworks and forecasts. The role requires significant experience with modelling, having a well-developed macroeconomic framework and coding capabilities. This position demands exceptional capability to lead, deliver, and innovate in a fast-moving and complex environment. The successful candidate will co lead the forecasting team to drive the team’s performance, development and wellbeing. The role requires excellent conceptual and analytical skills, and a capacity to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences. Specific responsibilities include: Managing forecasting processes within the Macroeconomic Conditions and Population Division. Maintaining and further developing Treasury’s forecasting frameworks and infrastructure. Building the modelling and forecasting capabilities of staff across the Division. Leading the timely delivery of influential analysis to brief the Treasurer and Senior Treasury Executives on macroeconomic developments and policy settings. Supporting the delivery of a pipeline of strategic projects across the Division. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience: Applying macroeconomic theory and frameworks, including working with macroeconometric models, preparing macroeconomic forecasts and exercising professional judgement. Leading a team of people and building technical capability. Communicating clearly and succinctly to influence a broad range of stakeholders. Operating in a dynamic setting as a team player, working productively across the Division and the Department and exercising sound judgement. Desirable Qualifications / Experience Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field, including, but not limited to, economics, econometrics, mathematics, or public policy. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with at least eight years of relevant work experience. Experience in one or more of the following will be particularly well-regarded: Applied economic research and analysis Government policy development and assessment #J-18808-Ljbffr
