Join to apply for the EL2 Directors, Central Forecasting Team role at Commonwealth Treasury Treasury is looking for talented, team-oriented, and highly motivated staff to fill positions in the Central Forecasting Team (CFT) of the Macroeconomic Conditions and Population Division (MCPD). CFT produces the economic forecasts and projections that underpin the Australian Government’s economic narrative, working with teams across MCPD and Treasury. As EL2 Director, you will lead a talented team that develops and maintains forecasting infrastructure and delivers projects aimed at improving Treasury’s analytical frameworks and forecasts. The role requires significant experience with modelling, a well-developed macroeconomic framework, and coding capabilities, and demands exceptional leadership in a fast-moving, complex environment. Responsibilities Managing forecasting processes within the Macroeconomic Conditions and Population Division. Maintaining and further developing Treasury’s forecasting frameworks and infrastructure. Building the modelling and forecasting capabilities of staff across the Division. Leading the timely delivery of influential analysis to brief the Treasurer and Senior Treasury Executives on macroeconomic developments and policy settings. Supporting the delivery of a pipeline of strategic projects across the Division. Qualifications Applying macroeconomic theory and frameworks, including working with macroeconometric models, preparing macroeconomic forecasts and exercising professional judgement. Leading a team of people and building technical capability. Communicating clearly and succinctly to influence a broad range of stakeholders. Operating in a dynamic setting as a team player, working productively across the Division and the Department and exercising sound judgement. Desirable Qualifications / Experience Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field, including economics, econometrics, mathematics, or public policy. At least eight years of relevant work experience. Experience in applied economic research and analysis. Experience in government policy development and assessment.
