Your responsibilities will include Shape the Future of Australia’s Naval Combat Capability We’re seeking an experienced Capability Sustainment & Development Engineer – AEGIS Combat System to help define the long‑term growth, evolution, and sustainment strategy of one of Australia’s most advanced naval combat systems. This role offers an opportunity to influence capability planning, system sustainment, and future upgrades across the Royal Australian Navy’s AEGIS-equipped fleet. You’ll combine your systems engineering expertise with a strategic outlook to develop a 5–10‑year capability roadmap, ensuring continuous enhancement, risk‑based decision‑making, and through‑life system support. In this customer‑facing and highly collaborative position, you will: Lead the continuous development and evolution of the AEGIS Combat System, steering enhancement, upgrade, and sustainment planning to deliver a capability roadmap. Conduct technical and risk‑based assessments to support long‑term planning and prioritisation. Collaborate with the Destroyer Enterprise and Defence stakeholders to align capability development with operational needs. Lead capability planning workshops, stakeholder reviews, and customer discussions on sustainment and future capability direction. Contribute to system architecture, obsolescence management, engineering change proposals (ECPs), and lifecycle support planning. Provide engineering guidance across the systems lifecycle and ensure alignment with the overall Combat System strategy. About you You’re a seasoned Systems Engineer or Capability Planner with a deep understanding of complex defence systems and a passion for shaping long‑term capability outcomes. You’ll bring Substantial experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, particularly in capability enhancement and sustainment planning. Proven ability to develop or contribute to capability roadmaps or long‑term technical strategies. Knowledge of system architecture, lifecycle management, obsolescence management, and change control processes. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience representing engineering perspectives to Defence customers. Prior experience in a Defence acquisition or sustainment environment—ideal for former ADF personnel or engineers with headquarter‑level planning exposure. A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or related engineering. An Australian NV‑1 security clearance and ability to access / handle Export Controlled technology, data and information.
