Overview Executive Commercial Lines Underwriter - Educational Institutions Unit – Hybrid, New Hartford, NY or Charlotte, NC. This full-time, exempt role focuses on underwriting commercial lines for educational institutions, including General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Property, and Commercial Auto. What You Will Do Underwrite risk, including decisions on complex risks, applying insurance rules and regulations in accordance with guidelines. Manage a high-volume agency assignment with increased authority limits. Prepare material for agency reviews and work with the account underwriter on agency production and loss ratio improvement plans. Underwrite commercial lines policies, including General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Property, and Commercial Auto. Evaluate risks and determine appropriate coverage while ensuring client satisfaction. Monitor and influence the book of business to protect company assets, with proactive analysis and execution of agency action plans to improve profitability. Responsibilities Analyze and evaluate new submissions and renewal accounts to determine acceptability of the risk within parameters outlined in the Underwriting Authority CL Underwriter Document. Review, interpret, and process data from applications and loss history. Articulate risk management principles, including exposure/hazard identification and control; demonstrate familiarity with competitive pricing and products. Communicate appetite, underwriting standards, declination reasons, and coverage advantages to Agents and internal partners to ensure profitability and generate quality new business submissions and retention. Cultivate strong business relationships with internal and external stakeholders through proactive communication and demonstrated ownership. Anticipate and meet customer needs, adjusting priorities to respond to changing client requirements. Manage a high-volume agency assignment with increased authority limits at expected quality control results. Analyze an agent's book of business to identify correction actions or opportunities for profitable growth. Demonstrate proficiency with management information data (e.g., Power BI). Maintain strong knowledge of the Commercial Lines marketplace and product offerings. Prepare material for agency reviews and collaborate with the account underwriter on agency production and loss ratio improvement plans. What You Need Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines Middle Market Underwriting preferred. Strong knowledge of General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Property, and Commercial Auto. Proven track record of underwriting and portfolio management in the middle market. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Working with our agency partners is a critical aspect of this role. Executive Commercial Lines Underwriter: $90,000 - $154,000 Commercial Lines Underwriter: $57,000 - $90,000 Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter: $73,500 - $111,000 This position is a full-time salaried, exempt (non-overtime eligible) position. The final salary within the internal range is reflective of work experience, geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities, and additional qualifications.
