Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia’s first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now one of the world’s most highly regarded independent medical research organisations. Our research focuses on the four key areas impacting children’s health: cancer, genomics and genetic diseases, neurobiology, and embryology. Work with a team of dedicated professionals We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team to: Conduct and support research experiments and projects both independently and collaboratively within the Eye Genetics Research Unit. Investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of eye diseases and contribute to the development of novel therapies for currently untreatable conditions. Apply advanced genomic and cellular techniques, including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, stem cell differentiation to retinal organoids, and mouse model studies. Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring accuracy and integrity for research publications and presentations. Utilise advanced technologies such as microscopy, image analysis, and electrophysiology to study disease mechanisms and therapeutic approaches. Collaborate in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, executing time-sensitive experiments and contributing to shared research goals. Prepare and present findings at meetings and assist in the composition of manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals. Assess cost‑benefit considerations in the development of sight‑saving therapies. What can you bring to this role? Strong knowledge of relevant area of scientific research Experience in the relevant area Advanced computer skills and proficiency with database programs. Advanced understanding of the clinical aspects of research Expertise and experience in human stem cell culture (desirable). Strong interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills Well developed planning, organizing and work management abilities Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
