Job Summary The City is seeking a qualified Building Surveyor to join the City Growth team. In this role you will be expected to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers, assess and process building applications ensuring compliance with the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, Building Regulations, Local Laws and relevant statutes. The City is open to considering applications from unqualified candidates with relevant industry experience, to commence in an Assistant Building Surveyor capacity. This opportunity would suit candidates interested in starting a career in building surveying, who possess a background in the building or support industry, and a willingness to study towards a qualification in Building Surveying. Key Accountabilities Assess and process building applications, reviewing plans and documentation against requirements of the Building Act, Building Regulations, National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards. Liaise clearly and professionally with applicants, builders and owners throughout the application process. Answer internal and external queries in relation to legislative and NCC requirements. Address arising unauthorised building works. Collaborate with fellow building surveyors, assistants, administration officers and town planning team. Maintain knowledge of current legislation, NCC series, Australian Standards, industry challenges and direction, and continue professional development. Position Requirements The successful applicant for the Building Surveyor position will possess a formal qualification and experience as a qualified building surveying practitioner, with a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of relevant legislation, regulations and building requirements, along with an understanding of the issues relating to building and development in regional Western Australia. Comprehensive interpersonal skills and the ability to confidently liaise with members of the public are also required. Completion of a pre‑employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City. Remuneration and Benefits A salary ranging from $102,015 per annum to $114,135 per annum will be offered, dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications. A lesser salary starting at $82,422 per annum may be offered should applicants not yet possess the experience and/or qualification required for this position and are more suited to the role of an Assistant Building Surveyor.
