Job Summary We are looking for two enthusiastic and passionate consultants to join the Department of Older People's Medicine at Ipswich Hospital. Full‑time, part‑time and flexible working options will be considered. This is an exciting time as we plan to roll out Epic, our new electronic health record, in 2025. We are developing services from the community into the acute hospital, including virtual wards, frailty assessment, senior days, etc. Main Duties The successful candidate will share a complex Older People's Ward with a colleague and oversee 14 inpatients, supported by a team of juniors (middle grade, CMT, FY1). Responsibilities include: Daily consultant‑led board round, regular ward rounds and family meetings. Monthly clinical governance meetings. 2 Frailty Assessment Base sessions a week, seeing up to 4 patients with multidisciplinary team. Participation in the 'hot phone' service (2‑8 calls a day). Cover on one of our Older People's Wards (short stay frailty unit) with an SpR, CMT and two FY1 doctors. Professional Qualification Essential MRCP or equivalent. CTC or within six months of expected CCT date (or eligible for entry onto GMC Specialist Register). Evidence of completion of higher specialist training. Detailed knowledge of Geriatrics and GIM (or equivalent). Ability to take independent clinical responsibility within a multi‑disciplinary team. Ability to organise and manage staff and resources effectively. Cooperative approach to colleagues and team members. Desirable Training in appraisal techniques. Postgraduate diploma or higher degree. Evidence of research and publications in peer‑reviewed journals. Management training programme. Post Graduate Certificate in medical education or equivalent. Knowledge of current national agendas affecting the NHS. Evidence of subspecialty interest. Full driving licence and regular access to a car.
