Drive excellence as a Shutdown Operations Manager. Take ownership, advance your career. New year, new direction. Explore the role that could elevate your career in 2026. Welcome, we are excited to share this opportunity with genuine candidates and invite you to our unique approach which plays a crucial role in matching our valued clients and prospective candidates. The Opportunity This is a pivotal role for a capable, hands‑on leader who knows shutdowns inside out and wants to build something that lasts. You’ll spend the first stage of this role leading shutdowns directly – operating in a coordinator capacity while you establish systems, grow client relationships, and build team capability across the state. As the workload and team expand, this position will evolve into a full State Shutdown Manager role – leading the WA shutdown function, setting strategy, and driving performance across multiple sites. If you’ve got the practical know‑how, strong people skills, and business sense to make that happen, read on. About the Business Inline Engineering is a respected mechanical engineering company delivering shutdown, maintenance, and project work across Western Australia. This is a team of capable, down‑to‑earth professionals who are all in – they roll up their sleeves, think creatively, and do what’s needed to get the job done safely and well. Their approach is summed up in one line: “If we can’t do it, it can’t be done.” Inline is continuing its next step of growth, strengthening its leadership structure to support expanding shutdown operations and client demand. About You You’ve come up through shutdowns and mechanical projects – likely a tradesperson or coordinator who’s developed into a trusted site leader. You’re practical, commercially aware, and enjoy leading teams as much as getting the job right. You build confidence quickly with clients and crews alike and take pride in running well‑organised, safe, and efficient shutdowns. Most of all, you like being part of a business where initiative and problem‑solving are valued – not lost in layers of management. Your New Role You’ll plan, resource, and lead shutdowns across Western Australia, building Inline’s capability, systems, and client relationships as you go. You’ll work closely with the leadership team – including the State Operations Manager (Workshops) – to ensure consistency between site and workshop delivery, while reporting directly to James Taylor. Over time, you’ll shape and lead a strong, state‑based team overseeing all shutdown activity across WA. Role Requirements Proven experience leading or coordinating shutdowns or mechanical project work. Mechanical trade or engineering background. Confident planning, scheduling, and resource coordination skills. Ability to lead supervisors and crews safely and productively. Strong understanding of shutdown cost control and reporting. Comfortable working both on‑site and strategically with management. Clear communicator who builds lasting client relationships. Willingness to travel as needed across WA. Key Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Mechanical trade or engineering qualification (preferred). Strong knowledge of fixed plant maintenance and shutdown environments. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and people development experience. Competent with planning tools and reporting systems. Commercially aware and disciplined with budgets and assets. Practical, confident, and solutions‑oriented communication style. Key Areas of Responsibility Shutdown Planning, Mobilisation & Readiness Purpose: Plan and prepare each shutdown for safe, efficient execution. Responsibilities: Lead planning, resourcing, and readiness checks. Coordinate with HR/mobilisation for inductions and logistics. Conduct site walk‑throughs and validate scope. On‑Site Leadership & Operational Performance Purpose: Deliver shutdowns safely, on time, and on budget. Responsibilities: Lead shutdown execution on site. Supervise supervisors and maintain shift alignment. Solve issues in real time and ensure productivity. Safety, Compliance & Quality Purpose: Maintain complete compliance with client and legislative standards. Responsibilities: Ensure safety reporting and permits are completed. Lead by example on safety behaviours and quality outcomes. People, Leadership & Team Capability Purpose: Build a capable, engaged team ready for future growth. Responsibilities: Identify and mentor future supervisors and leading hands. Foster accountability, communication, and teamwork. Commercial & Financial Performance Purpose: Maintain commercial discipline and asset utilisation. Responsibilities: Monitor costs and profitability for each shutdown. Manage company shutdown assets and reporting. Client & Stakeholder Relationships Purpose: Strengthen client confidence and repeat work. Responsibilities: Represent Inline on site and manage client communication. Complete all company and client shutdown reporting. Continuous Improvement & Systems Purpose: Introduce improvements that lift performance and efficiency. Responsibilities: Identify better ways of planning and delivering shutdowns. Support adoption of new systems and processes. How to Apply If you're ready to step into this leadership role and make a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
