As Supervisor City Entrances, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing Ballarat’s entrances, roundabouts, streetscapes, and garden beds. This position ensures the City of Ballarat continues to be recognised for excellence in horticultural maintenance and presentation. You will lead a dedicated team and work closely within internal stakeholders and external contractors to deliver high standards of horticultural practice. Key responsibilities include coordinating maintenance programs, managing horticultural and irrigation assets, overseeing budgets, and ensuring compliance with relevant plans and policies. This role also involves mentoring staff, scheduling resources for maximum efficiency, and contributing to long‑term planning through master plans and improvement projects. Your leadership will help shape the city’s green spaces and uphold Ballarat’s reputation as a leader in urban presentation. About you We are seeking someone with: You are an experienced horticulture professional with a passion for maintaining and enhancing public spaces. You hold a Certificate III or Diploma in Horticulture (or equivalent) and bring at least five years of supervisory experience in parks and gardens operations. Your background includes managing, installing, and maintaining a wide range of irrigation systems, as well as coordinating projects from start to finish. You have a solid understanding of Local Government operations and the diverse maintenance activities involved in parks and gardens, coupled with strong skills in asset management and project coordination. With demonstrated experience in staff supervision and development, you lead teams effectively while ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures. A current Victorian driver’s licence is essential and maintained throughout your employment. Key Selection Criteria A Certificate 3 or Diploma in Horticulture, or equivalent or lesser qualification with relevant work experience in a similar supervisory role. Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills for dealing with staff and the community, and the preparation of quotes, tenders, and business cases. Demonstrated practical experience in the supervision of staff and the maintenance of City Entrances. Demonstrated ability to manage the horticultural needs for specific projects, floral displays, and indigenous plantings. Experience in the management, installation, and maintenance of a wide range of irrigation system types. Experience in landscape installation and tree management techniques. Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor adherence to health and safety policies and procedures within a team environment. Current Victorian Driver Licence.
