Early Childhood Support Education Aide 25 HOURS PER WEEK (1 YEAR CONTRACT, TERM TIME) Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School (MRSS) is a K–12 co-educational, non-denominational school situated in the outer eastern Melbourne suburb of Warranwood. We are seeking an Support Education Aide to working closely with the teacher and co-educator in our Early Childhood space. About this Role: The Support Education Aide plays a supportive and integral role within the kindergarten program and is a valued member of the teaching team. Working closely with the teacher and co-educator, the Support Ed. Aide contributes to creating a warm, harmonious environment that supports the needs of all children. As a visible and active presence in the room, the Support Ed. Aide also serves as a positive role model, embodying the values and rhythm of the Steiner early childhood approach. They participate in the daily responsibilities of the team, helping to ensure that each child can engage meaningfully with the rich learning and developmental experiences offered. Support for individual children, including one‑on‑one assistance where required, is thoughtfully shared among all educators, reflecting a collaborative and inclusive approach to care. Personal health, hygiene and cleanliness are important for all staff working with children. As we nurture the young child’s senses we ask all staff to have an awareness of this when presenting for kindergarten each day. Ideally the person will have prior experience in a Steiner early childhood environment and/or early childhood training in Steiner Education. Key Responsibilities and Classroom Practice: The Support Ed. Aide works collaboratively as part of the kindergarten team to support the delivery of a rich, developmentally appropriate early childhood program. They respond to the guidance and requests of the kindergarten teacher, providing support to the children as needed, while consistently modelling respectful, warm, and purposeful behaviour. The Support Ed. Aide contributes to daily activities such as cooking, gardening, singing, storytelling, and handcrafts, helping to cultivate the domestic, rhythmic, and artistic qualities that characterise the Steiner early childhood. The kindergarten team supports the children together during morning circle and eurythmy, approaching these shared experiences with a joyful, cooperative, and harmonious presence. Requirements: Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent Current First Aid Certificate (including HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting) Current First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis & Asthma Certificate Applicants must have a sound understanding of, and commitment to, current Child Safety Standards. People and Culture: Uphold the values and expectations as described in the Staff Handbook Actively promote student engagement with the school values and expectations as described in the Staff Handbook. Enhance skills and knowledge through participation in professional learning that supports and advances best practice. Conduct all communication with students, staff, parents and members of the school community and external entities in a professional and respectful manner. Ensure all written communication is courteous, professional, accurate and reflective of the professional standards of the school. Contribute towards the development of effective communication through developing positive and professional relationships with all staff. Risk and Compliance: Ensure that work undertaken is done within the policy of Risk Management and OHS practices; Meet the expectations for safety in the workplace and report potential risk Remain informed about Emergency Response procedures and be capable of following and applying these should it become necessary. Be aware of students with health risks, such as anaphylaxis, and the appropriate management plans in place. Report directly to the child safety officer on any matters relating to child protection. Consistently adhere to school policies and procedures. Confidentiality & Professional Conduct: The Support Education Aide will strengthen community confidence by working within professional guidelines and responsibilities at all times, with due consideration and awareness of issues of sensitivity and confidentiality and with appropriate duty of care toward fellow colleagues and students.
