Overview As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to design, manufacture, and final delivery. This is a hands-on, office and factory-based role where you'll collaborate closely with a team of six engineers, experienced shop-floor technicians, and suppliers to deliver machinery that meets and exceeds client expectations. Reporting directly to the GM, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering function during a period of organisational restructure and growth. Get in touch with Bronwen for confidential chat. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and compliance. Collaborate with customers to create tailored, robust design concepts. Manage projects across the full lifecycle, including design, manufacture, testing, and delivery. Work closely with internal teams in automation, electrical, machining, and assembly, as well as external suppliers. Select and integrate components and systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic. Innovate and problem-solve to develop best-in-class packaging automation solutions. About You / Qualifications Degree qualification in mechanical engineering or mechatronics. Minimum 5 years\' experience in special purpose machinery design and manufacture. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM Vault, and Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of pneumatic and motion control systems. Experience in packaging machinery or high-end labelling equipment (highly regarded). Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage multiple projects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across teams and suppliers. A long-term mindset and commitment to seeing projects through. Desired extras: Trade background and service technician experience; Familiarity with SAP ERP systems; Experience in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic integration.
