Principal Engineer – Permanent – Highly Flexible – Melbourne (Preferred) Shape how modern engineering teams build, test, and deliver software. If you’re passionate about building scalable, reliable, and automated environments this is an opportunity to define how an entire organization delivers technology. You’ll be stepping into a Principal-level role where your ideas directly shape the future of cloud environments, automation, and developer experience. It’s hands‑on, strategic, and deeply collaborative. This role is 60‑70% technical thought leadership – you’ll think about how we can do things differently in our cloud environment space, manage them effectively and efficiently with increased uptime and availability to serve large programs of work supporting crews without incurring any delays in delivery due to environment issues. The rest is focused around creating strategy, env mgt plans and working with stakeholders across different squads. Base pay range A$190,000.00/yr – A$210,000.00/yr What this role gives you: Influence at scale: Lead the uplift of an enterprise‑wide Environment as a Service (EaaS) initiative that transforms how development, testing, and production environments are created and managed. Autonomy and ownership: You’ll have space to design the roadmap, build the vision, and implement modern practices around environment automation, observability, and reliability. Modern technology landscape: Work across Azure Cloud, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and containerised APIs improving how multiple digital products and platforms connect and deploy. Strategic impact: Your work will enable faster delivery, fewer environment blockers, and greater stability across highly visible digital services. Collaboration without chaos: Partner with engineering, testing, and product teams to solve environment issues at the source helping teams ship with confidence instead of stress. A modernisation mission: You’ll play a key role in uplifting legacy environments, driving high observability and uptime, and introducing automation‑first practices across a complex enterprise ecosystem. What you’ll bring: Proven experience in Azure Cloud, CI/CD pipelines, and Kubernetes. Strong background in complex, multi‑product environments and dependency management. Experience establishing or scaling Environment as a Service (EaaS). Familiarity with certificates and secrets management (e.g. Key Vault or similar). A structured, calm, and collaborative approach to problem‑solving. Why it’s worth your time: This isn’t a firefighting role. You’ll shape direction, guide best practice, and create the conditions for faster, safer software releases across an evolving digital platform.
