He would enjoy the company of a 'Mate' for a cuppa and chat, you could visit 1 hour weekly or fortnightly depending on your availability. Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help older people feel less isolated.
