About usThe Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.Workplace SafetyThe Workplace Safety team is working to improve the safety of Victorian workplaces and support those affected by workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. The team works closely with WorkSafe and other stakeholders to implement person-centred, transformative policy reforms.About the roleReporting to the Executive Director this key leadership role is responsible for providing people leadership and supporting a team to provide advice on improving workplace safety. This will be achieved by delivering work including:supporting the Minister by providing advice that is independent from WorkSafe's role as health and safety regulator and operator of the WorkCover Scheme; andleading on a number of work streams outside of (or in consultation with) WorkSafe and supporting / overseeing other entities, such as the lived experience Workplace Incidents ConsultativeCommittee and the Victorian Asbestos Eradication AgencyA comprehensive list of key accountabilities can be found in the PD.About youWe are seeking applications from candidates who have:An understanding, or an ability to quickly obtain an understanding, of the legislative, structural and operational aspects of workplace safety regulation and practice.Proven experience in managing a portfolio of strategic projects and functions to achieve organisational objectives.Highly developed communication, influencing and negotiating skills including the ability to build consensus and foster effective working relationships with key stakeholders at the most senior levels within the public and private sectors.Sound strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.Ability to provide practical advice to government in a time pressured and complex environment with competing and changing priorities. Well-developed leadership skills with the proven ability to collaborate with executive peers and senior managers, build a positive team culture, align teams with organisational values and goals, and provide effective people management.Experience and qualificationsAppropriate qualification or equivalent experience in the field of law, regulation, economics or public administration would be highly advantageous.A strong background in the provision of policy advice to senior management and other clients.Experience in implementing strategic initiatives in a complex policy and financial environment to achieve outcomes consistent with business objectives.Experience leading a team and working as part of a senior management group.About our cultureWe aim to be a model employer providing an inclusive workplace that is understanding and respectful of differences such as gender, identity, race, disability or age.
