About the role The Senior Clinician is a key position within the hEP service team. The incumbent is responsible for the provision of clinical leadership, training and supervision to members of a multidisciplinary team, specialising in the provision of comprehensive case management and psychological therapy to young people aged 12–25 years attending the hEP service. The Senior Clinician is expected to function autonomously as well as work collaboratively with the other Senior Clinicians within the team, to plan and develop services for these young people and their families which are consistent with best practice standards and evidence-based care and are in line with the strategic direction and vision for the hEP service. The Senior Clinician may be required to oversee the intake and allocation of new young people, the clinical review and quality assurance processes, supervision of staff, business and professional development meetings and contribute to the development and maintenance of community partnerships with key external stakeholders, developing effective interfaces across programs within the service, as well as facilitating relevant research activities. The Senior Clinician is expected to have significant expertise in the provision of mental health services to young people with serious mental health issues and is expected to provide psychological treatment and case management to a caseload. Duties and Responsibilities Intervene early and effectively with young people experiencing a first episode of psychosis and who may also present with a range of co‑morbid mental health issues. To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis to minimise disability, adverse health and social impacts. To enable both symptomatic and functional recovery from a first episode of psychosis through the provision of evidence-based psychological therapy, home‑based assertive outreach, family work and skilled, youth friendly case management. Adheres to the Mental Health Act, all headspace and Black Swan Health Policies and Procedures including Equal Employment Opportunity, Occupational Health and Safety, the Code of Conduct and other relevant legislation. Work with the Team Coordinator to coordinate DCP reporting in consultation with the Clinical director as per mandatory reporting guidelines and the headspace Quality Governance Framework 2015. Consultation, liaison, and linkage with internal and external service systems to provide a full range of tailored interventions for young people with a first episode of psychosis. Develop, implement and evaluate appropriate treatment plans for each young person and their family in collaboration with young people, families and members of the multidisciplinary team. Crisis response and home-based assertive outreach as required, to facilitate engagement and treatment with a young person and their family/significant others. Other duties as assigned by Manager. The successful candidate will Have relevant tertiary qualifications and registration with AHPRA or membership with an appropriate professional body. Have substantial experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, with specific experience working with young people experiencing early psychosis or a first episode psychosis in an outreach model. Demonstrate skills in staff supervision and proven ability to contribute to clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate ability to engage and work collaboratively with young people and their families. Be self‑motivated and able to function autonomously while working effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with team members, other professionals and external agencies. Be able to develop effective working partnerships with a range of personnel and services and promote collaborative practice. Show flexibility in coping with organisational change and demonstrate capacity to be innovative in clinical approaches with young people and their families/significant others. Work weekdays, with some flexibility may be required. Maternity Leave Cover, Part‑time/Full‑time Clinician’s As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Clinician(s) will coordinate comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health care and provide specific psychological and psychosocial interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of young people aged 12‑25 years who are referred to the Continuing Case Management team of the Early Psychosis Youth Service (EPYS) and work within an optimistic, hopeful recovery framework. Duties and Responsibilities Carry a caseload of young people within the Continuing Care Team (CCT). Provision of mental health assessments, including completion of mental state examination, risk assessment, case formulations and individual treatment planning. Ensure that service delivery complies with legislative requirements and the policies and procedures of Black Swan Health and EPYS. Contribute to the development of a culture of quality and innovation, ensuring the continuing improvement of clinical service delivery. Actively participate in quality and innovation activities and individually strive for continuous quality improvement and service innovation. Actively engage with young people, their families and significant others in the delivery of the service. Contribute to the development of a culture in the CCT that is young person centric and optimistic, empathic and recovery focused. Other duties as assigned by Manager. The successful candidate will Have relevant tertiary qualifications and registration with AHPRA or membership with an appropriate professional body: Registered Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Occupational Therapist Psychologist (Registration with AHPRA as a Registered or Clinical Psychologist) Mental Health Social Worker Social Worker Have demonstrated experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, ideally with young people experiencing mental health disorders particularly first episode psychosis. Have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with team members, other professionals and outside agencies.
