Senior Occupational Therapist St John of God Health Care – Midland Hospital, Perth, Western Australia Position Summary The Senior Occupational Therapist (Geriatrics) works as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver senior clinical occupational therapy services to geriatric clients. The role ensures practice aligns with the Occupational Therapy Australia Code of Ethics, as well as St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) policies and guidelines. Responsibilities Provision of an innovative approach to Occupational Therapy services within a Geriatric speciality. Complete comprehensive patient assessment, including personal care, domestic and community ADLs, home environment assessment, cognitive and functional physical assessment as required. Provide a comprehensive treatment intervention and appropriate progression treatment to match functional goals for complex patients. In conjunction with the Manager and other Occupational Therapy caregivers, develop processes for evaluating both inpatient and outpatient Occupational Therapy programs. Monitor patients/clients plans and outcomes through attendance at and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings. Strive for high satisfaction levels of patients/clients and external agencies. Complete appropriate administrative duties, liaise with the administration team, report statistical data and complete progress notes. Provide written and verbal reports as required. Initiate referrals to external agencies in a timely manner. Demonstrate consolidated, current knowledge of research, evidence‑based practice in Occupational Therapy and related clinical areas. Exercise independent professional judgment on routine matters; seek supervision for novel, complex or critical tasks. Lead and contribute to undergraduate student programs and training. Lead and develop junior staff within the team. Act as a role model for staff in promoting professional values and ethics. Represent the profession clinically or in service development as required; initiate and participate in working parties, committees and internal forums at discipline and divisional levels. Position Requirements Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Minimum of 4 years clinical experience within the geriatric speciality area in acute hospital, community healthcare, and/or disability care settings. Ability to provide professional supervision and mentoring to junior staff, supporting their professional development and maintaining high standards of clinical practice and service development. Proven ability to develop evidence‑based and innovative clinical practices. Experience initiating and conducting quality improvement activities. Fixed‑term full time position up to 76 hours per fortnight. Discounts on hospital services & private health insurance.
