Permanent Full-Time Position | Monday to Friday Roster Residential role 45 mins from Toowoomba Provide water management expertise & drive sustainable outcomes The New Acland Coal Mine (NAC), a thin seam open cut mining operation is owned and managed by New Hope Group. NAC based in Acland, 35km north-west of Toowoomba, has played a key role in the Darling Downs region as an employer and economic contributor since it began operation in October 2002. About the role As NAC continues to grow, we are seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor (Water) on a permanent full‑time basis. Working a 5/2 roster and reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Advisor (Water) will conduct specialist advice on water management, approvals and environmental compliance. What you will do Lead the development and implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS), with a primary focus on water management in alignment with corporate standards and legislative requirements Oversee the effective management of all water quality and water use environmental documentation, licences, approvals, policies and procedures Coordinate all water‑related environmental monitoring activities (including surface water, groundwater and discharge monitoring) as required Lead the development and implementation of site‑specific water management plans, including water balance modelling, dewatering strategies, groundwater impact assessments, and sediment control measures Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and stakeholders on matters relating to surface and groundwater compliance, including formal and informal communication, reporting, meetings, inspections, and audits Manage and supervise environmental contractors in line with organisational requirements to ensure effective and compliant delivery of operation Engage with the Community liaison officers to manage and respond to community complaint investigation and management and ensure timely delivery of response To be considered for this opportunity you will bring A Bachelor of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or equivalent Postgraduate studies or professional certifications in water resource management, hydrogeology or mine site environmental management (desirable) Expert knowledge of surface water and groundwater systems, including hydrology, hydrogeology, dewatering systems, water balance modelling, and water quality monitoring Strong understanding of Queensland environmental legislation and regulatory requirements applicable to mining operations, particularly EP Act, Water Act, and Environmental Authorities (EAs) Well‑developed skills in environmental risk management, stakeholder engagement, and internal / external audit participation Minimum 3 years’ experience in an environmental advisory role, preferably in open cut coal mining, with a strong focus on water management To be successful in this role, it is important that you have Proven experience in the development and implementation of site‑based water management plans, water monitoring networks and compliance strategies A strong safety mindset with ability to actively identify and report hazards / incidents Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management skills Enthusiasm to positively contribute to site culture High attention to detail and precision in executing tasks Ability to work well as a team and independently Ability to undergo and pass a coal board medical The ability to contribute to and work as part of team in a fast‑paced environment What working at NAC offers Excellent remuneration package including annual bonus scheme Discounted health insurance (Medibank), New Hope Smart Saver program Novated Lease / Salary packaging Fitness Subsidy and Purchased Leave Programs Working for an organisation who is committed to the prosperity of the local community Career development through structured programs and diversified on the job work experiences With an opportunity to live and work locally in the Darling Downs (Toowoomba or Western Downs regions) you will be committed to providing expert guidance and leadership in water management to support the success of the NAC site.
