NAC - Senior Environmental Adviser

Senior Environmental Adviser (Water) – NAC New Acland Coal Mine (NAC), owned and operated by New Hope Group, is a thin‑seam open‑cut mining operation in Acland, 35km northwest of Toowoomba. About the Role As NAC continues to grow, we are seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor (Water) on a permanent full‑time basis. Working a 5/2 roster and reporting to the Environment Superintendent, you will provide specialist advice on water management, approvals and environmental compliance. What You Will Do Lead the development and implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS), focusing on water management in alignment with corporate standards and legislative requirements Oversee water quality and use environmental documentation, licences, approvals, policies and procedures Coordinate all water‑related environmental monitoring activities (surface water, groundwater, discharge) as required Lead the development and implementation of site‑specific water management plans, including water balance modelling, dewatering strategies, groundwater impact assessments and sediment control measures Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and stakeholders on surface and groundwater compliance, including communication, reporting, meetings, inspections and audits Manage and supervise environmental contractors to ensure effective and compliant delivery of operations Engage with community liaison officers to manage and respond to community complaints and investigations, ensuring timely delivery of responses To Be Considered For This Opportunity You Will Bring A Bachelor of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or equivalent Postgraduate studies or professional certifications in water resource management, hydrogeology or mine site environmental management (desirable) Expert knowledge of surface water and groundwater systems, including hydrology, hydrogeology, dewatering systems, water balance modelling and water quality monitoring Strong understanding of Queensland environmental legislation and regulatory requirements applicable to mining operations, particularly EP Act, Water Act and Environmental Authorities (EAs) Well‑developed skills in environmental risk management, stakeholder engagement and internal/external audit participation Minimum 3 years exposure in an environmental advisory role, preferably in open‑cut coal mining with a strong focus on water management Success Criteria Proven experience developing and implementing site‑based water management plans, monitoring networks and compliance strategies Strong safety mindset with the ability to identify and report hazards/incidents Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Enthusiasm to positively contribute to site culture High attention to detail and precision when executing tasks Ability to work both independently and in a team Ability to undergo and pass a coal board medical Capacity to work well in a fast‑paced environment What Working At NAC Offers Excellent remuneration package including annual bonus scheme Discounted health insurance (Medibank) and New Hope Smart Saver programme Novated lease / salary packaging Fitness subsidy and paid leave programmes Work for an organisation committed to the prosperity of the local community Career development through structured programmes and diversified on‑job experiences With an opportunity to live and work locally in the Darling Downs (Toowoomba or Western Downs regions), you will be committed to providing expert guidance and leadership in water management to support the success of the NAC site.
