Working as part of the Student Learning team in the PVCE portfolio, this position helps uphold key legislation, including the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and the Carer Recognition Act 2010, while championing the UNSW Progress for All strategy and Disability Inclusion Action Plan with a strong focus on building a neuroaffirming university community. In this role, you will assess and coordinate the educational adjustment needs of students and collaborate closely with colleagues across the University to ensure adjustments are implemented effectively. You will provide expert guidance on accessible education for neurodivergent students, design and deliver engaging learning and social programs, and advocate for inclusive practices across the UNSW community. The position is central to strengthening equitable student support and fostering a campus culture that values and affirms neurodiversity. The role reports to the Lead, Equitable Learning, and has no direct reports. Specific accountabilities for this role include: Manage a caseload, including complex cases for neurodivergent students, and maintain accurate and professional case notes, data and statistics using appropriate client and student management systems, data and reporting tools. Develop, implement, and evaluate a specialised program of student-facing initiatives and resources specifically designed for neurodivergent learners to deliver a neuroaffirming environment at UNSW and support academic success. Liaise with neurodivergent peak bodies to remain up-to-date on lived experience in communities, information and lived experienced and inform program and Equitable Learning Service delivery. Collaborate with Academic Development, Academic Success, and academic and professional staff to embed neuroaffirming learning practices into teaching, practices and procedures using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. About You A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. education, inclusive education, health science, psychology, learning support) and/or equivalent experience supporting student learning in a higher education context. Demonstrated experience working with neurodivergent students and students with disabilities, using person centred, strengths‑based approaches to support achievement of learning goals. Demonstrated understanding of the key issues currently impacting accessibility to education for neurodivergent and other students, coupled with knowledge and understanding of inclusive practice and equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a learning and teaching context. Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to determine individualised educational adjustments for neurodivergent students and students with disabilities, long‑term health concerns, mental health conditions and caring responsibilities. Understanding of application and use of inclusive (assistive) technologies to support learning and independence for neurodivergent students and students living with a disability. Strong student‑focused service orientation together with excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence, negotiate and resolve conflict to build and maintain positive professional relationships across diverse groups of people, both internally and externally. Excellent facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and support students and staff in both group and one‑on‑one settings, online and in person. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to contribute positively and proactively to the team’s work. Demonstrated organisational skills, self‑motivation, initiative and judgment and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Working knowledge and understanding of the legislative context including: Disability Discrimination Act (1992), Disability Standards for Education 2005, and Privacy legislation. Capacity to apply this knowledge in the Higher Education environment.
