Principal Software Engineer, Back End – L7 (Bangkok – Relocation Provided) At Agoda, we bridge the world through travel. About the Team In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build scalable, fault‑tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover inventory, pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking, payments, and more. We use state‑of‑the‑art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile practices. Opportunity Agoda Platform team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead mission‑critical systems that serve millions of users daily. You will own large parts of Agoda’s platform, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate across teams. Responsibilities Architect and develop highly scalable, mission‑critical back‑end systems. Own a large portion of the system from strategy to bytecode level. Lead impactful cross‑team projects, improving service quality, code, and architecture. Provide thoughtful feedback, nurture an inclusive engineering environment, and champion fundamentals. Identify and optimise technology stack for cost, efficiency, velocity, and developer happiness. Communicate technical trade‑offs to stakeholders, including business owners and C‑suite executives. Qualifications 10+ years of software engineering experience, with proven high‑impact ownership of production services. Strong programming skills in Kotlin, Scala, Java, or C#. Deep understanding of distributed systems, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability. Excellent communication skills and ability to influence cross‑functional teams. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field. Nice to Have Master’s or Ph.D. in a technical field. Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and scaling. Experience with Rust, C, or other low‑level languages. Experience in machine‑learning CI/CD pipelines.
