With a strong capital position, an experienced board, and a growing pipeline of grid‑scale developments across the NEM, they are now seeking a Chief Development Officer to take the helm of the project development function and lead the next phase of their national expansion. The opportunity This is a unique leadership role for an experienced development executive who understands the pivotal role energy storage plays in Australia’s transition to net zero. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing a portfolio of utility‑scale BESS assets, from concept and site acquisition through to approvals, connection, and financial close. In this role, you will: Lead and grow the internal project development team across land, planning, grid, environmental, and commercial functions. Oversee the full lifecycle of large‑scale standalone grid‑connected BESS projects, from feasibility and approvals through to ready‑to‑build and investment stage. Identify and evaluate new development opportunities across the NEM, ensuring a robust pipeline aligned with strategic growth objectives. Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, TNSPs, landowners, communities, investors, and delivery partners. Lead commercial negotiations across joint ventures, offtake arrangements, and financing structures. Provide strategic oversight, governance, and risk management of all development activities, reporting directly to the CEO and board. About you You’ll bring deep experience in the Australian energy market and a strong track record in project development, ideally with direct experience in BESS, grid‑scale storage, or hybrid dispatchable assets. Specifically, you will have: 10–15 years’ experience in renewable energy or energy infrastructure development, with a clear focus on energy storage. Proven success taking BESS or dispatchable energy projects from feasibility to financial close. Strong commercial acumen and understanding of NEM operations, grid connection, and market services. Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to lead cross‑functional teams in a fast‑moving, entrepreneurial environment. A collaborative leadership style that balances strategic vision with hands‑on execution.
