Senior Consultant – Financial Crime Overview Our Financial Crime Team assists organisations in reviewing and transforming their risk and compliance frameworks that prevent, detect and deter money laundering, fraud, bribery, corruption and other financial crimes. We apply our experience in financial crime regulations, operations, data analytics, and technology to help clients enhance their financial crime capability and deliver effective and efficient strategies. Key Responsibilities Work within a national team to support organisations with financial crime risk, compliance and transformation. Take a lead role in scoping, executing and delivering financial crime advisory, review and remediation projects. Engage across all parts of the financial crime framework and operating model, including KYC/Customer Due Diligence, identity verification, transaction monitoring, customer screening, sanctions and regulatory reporting. Analyse, test and document financial crime policies, procedures and data. Draft findings and reports to help clients understand and mitigate their financial crime risks. Manage financial crime work, liaise with clients and support junior resources. Provide specialised advice to improve the effectiveness of clients’ anti‑money laundering (AML) and counter‑terrorist financing (CTF) controls. Conduct risk assessments, gap analyses, and develop and implement compliance programmes, policies and procedures. Deliver training and awareness sessions on financial crime risks and mitigation strategies. Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients, outlining findings, recommendations and action plans. Stay current with emerging trends, new legislation, guidance and regulatory changes that impact financial crime compliance. Coordinate work streams and collaborate with other KPMG departments where relevant. Contribute to the growth of the Financial Crime practice through team management, innovative offerings, relationship building and thought‑leadership publications. Qualifications University degree in law, international relations, accounting, financial crime risk management or a related business discipline. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and present to senior leadership. Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability when handling financial information. Project management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects. Knowledge of, and experience working within, the financial or regulated sector. Experience & Skills Sound expertise and understanding of the Australian AML/CTF or sanctions regulatory regime or industry best practice. Minimum 2–3 years of experience in financial crime (AML/CTF or sanctions), ideally within a large professional consulting environment, a financial or regulated institution, or a regulatory/law‑enforcement agency. Experience in developing, implementing and testing AML/CTF controls and sanctions screening. Demonstrated ability to lead projects from scoping through to delivery and client reporting. Ability to support junior staff and manage client expectations.
