Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry – Brisbane QLD The Traveller Operations & Policy (TO&P) branch develops and implements regulatory policy for traveller biosecurity and human health, delivers biosecurity regulatory screening and inspections of goods at air and seaports, manages non-compliant travellers including by issuing infringement notices, and drives modernisation and reform initiatives. The branch is responsible for leading the planning and design of the department’s requirements for the new Western Sydney International Airport. Traveller Policy is responsible for establishing the policy, administrative rules and legislative framework for arriving international air and sea travellers and administering biosecurity controls relevant to those travellers. This includes aligning border measures with programs designed to modernise incoming traveller processes, such as paperless entry, in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force. The section works collaboratively across the department’s biosecurity system, with industry, port and airport operators, Commonwealth agencies and international governments to lead and support the design and delivery of an integrated regulatory compliance system. The key duties of the position include Undertaking and managing moderately complex projects under general direction Assisting with the development of tools for monitoring performance against policy objectives through assurance mechanisms Assisting with the progression of policy reform and change management activities associated with the biosecurity risk management of international travellers Liaising with internal and external stakeholders on policy, project or operational issues Providing sound information and advice on traveller issues through data analysing and the preparation of reports Preparing high quality written briefs, correspondence, minutes and reports on both routine and more complex matters Performing the role of secretariat for multiple forums Overseeing databases, undertaking data quality assurance activities and assisting with triaging and actioning system feedback issues Supporting data audits and investigations, including preparing draft findings of the audits and investigations Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill two ongoing vacancies and that the roles may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the division where the duties are of a similar nature.
