Job Description - Speech Pathologist Grade 3 - Full Time - Temporary - ACIP - NSW Centre for Effective Reading – Palm Ave School (0000B3FU) Location Sydney Region Advertisement Number A Number of Positions 1 Closing Date 02-Dec-2025, 5:00:00 AM Job Category School Support Staff Organisation School Administrative and Support Position Information The Speech Pathologist will be expected to provide speech pathology assessment and develop intervention supports for students with complex reading and language difficulties referred to the NSW Centre for Effective Reading, an initiative of the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Ministry of Health. Essential Requirements Must hold a Bachelor or Post Graduate degree in Speech Pathology. Is a member or has eligibility for certified practitioner membership with Speech Pathology Australia. Maintains certified practitioner membership with Speech Pathology Australia. Experience in delivery of assessment and intervention services to school age students with speech, language and literacy difficulties. Proficiency with a range of technology, including using databases, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and capacity to develop skills in using telehealth applications. Valid Working with Children Check clearance. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education policies. Talent Pool A talent pool may be created through this recruitment process. The NSW Centre for Effective Reading (NSW CER) is a NSW Department of Education and NSW Health initiative. NSW CER is a state-wide service for students referred from eligible government and non-government schools. NSW CER supports primary aged, rural and remote students with complex reading difficulties who have been identified and accepted for support. NSW CER has hubs located in Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and the Sydney metropolitan area with a multidisciplinary team consisting of Speech Pathologists, Psychologists and specialist teachers to provide the best support and intervention for students. A comprehensive assessment is provided by a multidisciplinary team, these results form the personalised interventions for each student. Hub teams provide support tailored to student needs. This includes staff training in program implementation, regular monitoring and feedback, personalised learning meetings, direct intervention, targeted professional learning and class-based strategies. Reading intervention is provided for 12 months in which frequent communication between the referring school and the NSW CER will support adjustments to the intervention, in response to student progress. Special Notes This is an above centrally identified temporary position established through school funds. The successful candidate’s duration of appointment to this position will be subject to the continuity of funding, the requirement of the position and the needs of the school.
