Position Accountabilities The Manager Planning and Mitigation leads the Department’s emergency management planning cycle, ensuring policies, plans and capabilities are aligned with statewide requirements and support a resilient transport system. The role works closely with government and industry partners to drive risk‑reduction initiatives, particularly in bushfire management, while providing high‑level advice on preparedness and the Department’s ability to meet its obligations. Success depends on strong strategic oversight, effective collaboration and the ability to represent the Department across complex, multi‑agency environments. Qualifications and Experience Experience relevant to the accountabilities and capabilities of the role (mandatory). Understanding of emergency management and related disciplines. Other Position Requirements Driver’s License May occasionally involve evening or weekend work during emergencies, including occasional overnight, regional and interstate travel. Due to the nature of emergency management, this role requires periodic on‑call availability and may on occasion result in standby and recall to duty requests. Role Overview The Manager Emergency Planning and Mitigation leads DTP’s responsibilities in the Emergency Management Act 2013 to have systems, structures and strategic policies in place to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the state’s highest risk emergencies. This includes governance and coordination arrangements, systems, emergency risk assessment and mitigation policies. This role leads DTP’s involvement in Victoria’s bushfire management strategic frameworks, and coordinates across the portfolio on legislated fire prevention obligations. It also coordinates DTP’s obligations to prepare, review and participate in the State Emergency Management Plan and relevant sub‑plans.
