Teacher’s Aide (Special Education) – Fixed Term Contract Biala School for Specialised Education, located in the beautiful coastal town of Ballina, is seeking a passionate and experienced Teacher Aide to join our team. This position is available due to growth in student numbers. Biala School services the areas of Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby, Byron Bay, Lismore, Woodburn, and Ballina. Established in 1969, Biala School is the only independent school in Ballina dedicated to providing specialist education and services for students with disabilities. The school operates five classrooms, organised by students' age and stage of learning, ranging from reception through to Year 12. Biala also encourages and assists students explore pathways beyond school such as TAFE, traineeships, community access and assisted work programs. As a small, independent school, Biala offers a curriculum that seamlessly integrates academic learning, life skills, and community access. Each student has an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) designed to meet their unique needs and support their growth in the most effective way possible. The Role Teacher Aides at Biala School support classroom teachers to deliver high-quality learning programs, as well as implement strategies for students with complex learning disabilities. Our Teacher Aides play a crucial role in helping students recognise and reach their full potential, while promoting independence, self-confidence, and respect for diversity. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for specialised education and be able to work collaboratively within a small team of dedicated teachers and support staff. The position is part-time NSW school term, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with a 30-minute break. Biala School offers Not for Profit Salary Packaging benefits. Selection Criteria The ideal candidate will have: A Cert III or IV in School-Based Education Support (essential) Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities (highly desirable) A genuine enthusiasm for supporting students with disabilities and helping them reach their potential The ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team Strong organisational, communication, and administrative skills, including the ability to follow schedules A demonstrated ability to work independently and make informed decisions with supervisor support Excellent communication skills with staff, students, and families, maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality Biala School is fully committed to child safety, and the successful applicant will be required to undergo child protection screening and comply with the school's Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
