Senior Consultant – Data Engineering – Sydney We’re seeking a Senior Consultant with a deep understanding of Data Engineering to join our dynamic team. Candidates must have full, permanent working rights in Australia and at least 5 + years of industry experience in Data Engineering. Key Responsibilities Data modelling & architecture: design, build, and maintain scalable data models that meet both client and internal needs. ETL development: oversee the development of robust ETL/ELT pipelines, transforming raw data into structured, analyzable datasets. Data transformation: lead SQL‑based transformations using tools like dbt and Coalesce, delivering clean datasets for analysis. Analytics solutions: integrate and manage analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) with data sources. Data quality & governance: implement data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Client leadership: guide clients through technical challenges and deliver high‑impact solutions that meet business goals. Cross‑functional collaboration: work with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to drive data‑driven decision‑making. Performance optimisation: monitor and improve the scalability and performance of data models and pipelines. Strategic Consulting and Project Leadership Provide high‑level data consulting and advisory services, helping clients strategise, design, and implement effective data, analytics, and governance frameworks that deliver measurable business value. Lead and oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of complex client projects, including requirements gathering, solution architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimisation. Shape propositions and support new business activities by identifying emerging client needs, developing tailored offerings, and participating in sales and client pitches. Manage client relationships, ensuring high satisfaction, value delivery, and the identification of new opportunities for collaboration and growth. Analytics, Delivery, and Data Quality Conduct advanced data analysis and modelling to uncover actionable insights, trends, and opportunities; communicate findings and recommendations clearly to diverse stakeholders. Design, implement, and maintain data models, algorithms, and robust pipelines to automate business processes and support data‑driven decision‑making. Implement best practices for data quality, validation, and security, ensuring integrity, compliance, and trusted outcomes across all analytics initiatives. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for technical, analytical, and project deliverables to facilitate knowledge transfer and continuous improvement. People Leadership and Team Development Lead, coach, and mentor consultants and data professionals, providing targeted guidance, stretch opportunities, and fostering professional and technical growth through regular feedback and support. Set clear expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support ongoing career development, including recommending training, certification paths, and growth experiences. Cultivate a team culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusivity, and excellence, aligned with both company values and client success. Model and champion change adoption, driving a continuous improvement mindset around both technical practice and people operations. Deliver any other responsibilities as assigned and relevant to skills, expertise, and evolving business objectives. Required Skills & Experience Advanced SQL expertise (5+ years) with strong experience in complex queries, stored procedures, and managing large datasets. Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, Fabric, or Databricks. Mastery of ETL/ELT processes and modern data transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Coalesce). Expertise in creating compelling data visualisations using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Proven ability to deliver real‑time analytics solutions in dynamic environments. Bonus Skills Machine learning or advanced data science techniques. Passion for data storytelling and creating engaging visualisations. Experience in data governance and ensuring data security, quality, and accuracy. Required Qualifications Must hold a valid permanent work visa, permanent residency or Australian citizenship. Bachelor’s or graduate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Applied Maths, Statistics, Physics or equivalent experience.
