About the Role Our Federal Government Client is seeking a Lead Data Manager with experience in data management and governance. This is a long‑term 12‑month contract role with an additional 6‑month extension option if required, located at our client’s Canberra office. Hybrid working arrangements are supported. Responsibilities Lead the development of data sharing agreements between different Federal Government departments. Lead policy development and reform activities including managing changes to legislation to establish the legal and legislative basis for data sharing. Collaborate with Data and Solution Architects to design scalable and adaptable data transfer and storage solutions that align with evolving business needs. Manage and govern large, sensitive and high‑value data assets across their lifecycle. Promote best practices in data management, incorporating lessons learned and staying current with emerging technologies. Drive improvements in data management practices and data governance within the area. Develop a data governance framework and support the working group. Work closely with data professionals and business stakeholders to identify process improvements, recommend system enhancements, and apply data governance and quality frameworks. Advocate for shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs, enhance data flow and prevent duplication of functionality across teams. Qualifications Strong technical expertise and leadership in data environments, with experience in digital transformation initiatives, and preparing for AI. In-depth understanding of data governance principles, including enterprise information management and data protection. Experience in master data management, data migration, and data quality assurance. Ability to bridge business and technical perspectives, working effectively with both IT teams and business stakeholders. Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills. An active NV1 security clearance. Desirable Familiarity with government data regulations and emerging trends in data governance. Familiarity with legislation reform and working with legal stakeholders and processes. Experience with DevOps practices and tools. Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must already hold an Australian citizenship as well as an NV1 security clearance or higher.
