The Organisation The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework. We provide confidential counselling and practical support for victim survivors of sexual violence and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault, sexual harassment and childhood sexual abuse or ritual. We arrange immediate crisis appointments and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and / or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services. Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week. Job Summary The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing cohesive communications strategies that promote CRCC's mission, values, and services across all internal and external channels. This role will lead all aspects of CRCC's communications including external, internal media relations, social media, publications, and events ensuring consistency of message, tone, and visual identity. The Communications Manager will work closely with the leadership and program teams, and our external partners to strengthen CRCC's voice and visibility in the community. Key Responsibilities Develop and deliver comprehensive communications strategies aligned with CRCC's goals and values. Manage and produce all internal and external communications, including newsletters, reports, campaigns, social media and digital content. Oversee CRCC's social media presence and online engagement, ensuring messaging is consistent, responsive, and reflective of CRCC's feminist framework. Lead the development of communications strategies for upcoming events, including campaigns, awareness weeks, and community partnerships. Coordinate design and production of merchandise, ensuring alignment with CRCC's branding and messaging standards. Develop and distribute invitations, media releases, and public relations materials to promote CRCC's initiatives and advocacy work. Ensure branding consistency across all platforms and materials, maintaining up-to-date brand assets and templates. Support staff communications, fostering internal engagement and clear information sharing across teams. Establish and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, community partners, and stakeholders. Monitor and evaluate communication activities, providing reports and recommendations for improvement. Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or marketing. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience managing social media platforms and digital communications tools. Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic communication plans. Understanding of feminist principles and commitment to CRCC's mission. Excellent organisational and project management skills, with attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Graphic design, content creation, or multimedia skills (desirable). Knowledge of media engagement and public relations processes. Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of 5 years experience in a communications or related role. Experience in the not-for-profit, advocacy, or social services sector preferred.
