The Queensland Law Society has a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Senior In‑house Legal Counsel in the Office of General Counsel. The Office of General Counsel delivers independent legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer, the President, Council and its committees, the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (LPAB), QLS’s incorporated legal practice and internal stakeholders. The work is varied, intellectually engaging and central to maintaining integrity within the legal profession in Queensland. Key responsibilities of the role are: Provide independent, high‑quality in‑house legal advice on a broad range of matters. Represent QLS before Queensland courts and tribunals, including administrative review matters, injunctions, and QCAT applications for stay and review. Conduct litigation involving statutory interpretation, administrative decision‑making, personal bankruptcy and corporate insolvency. Managing the Society’s exposure to risk by reviewing, drafting and advising on contracts, commercial arrangements and regulatory issues. Processing applications for access to information. Prepare submissions to government and statutory bodies on matters affecting the legal profession and regulatory landscape. To be successful for the role you will have the following: Qualifications Bachelor of Laws (LLB or equivalent). Admission as an Australian lawyer. Eligibility for an unrestricted Queensland Practising Certificate. Knowledge, skills and experience A minimum of 5+ years PAE, with a strong grounding in private practice. Demonstrated experience in Administrative Law, administrative decision‑making, or regulatory practice. Litigation experience, including appearances before courts and/or tribunals. Excellent statutory interpretation, legal research and analytical skills. Ability to produce practical, commercially aware and context‑appropriate advice. Strong understanding of government structures and administrative processes. Experience advising or appearing on behalf of statutory bodies or professional regulators. Prior in‑house experience and administrative litigation experience is highly regarded. About You You bring sound judgment and a commitment to delivering clear, practical advice.
