APS 6 - Aerial Delivery System Specialist Australian Department of Defence – Richmond NSW 1d ago , from Australian Department of Defence $91,702 - $104,753 + 10% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation The Role The role of Aerial Delivery System Specialists (ADSS) at Air Mobility Training and Development Unit (AMTDU) is to ensure the safe and effective carriage of cargo on Australian Defence Force (ADF) fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. ADSS support this mission by evaluating prospective helicopter and airdrop cargo against design standards to achieve force projection requirements. ADSS conduct independent verification and quality checks of air cargo procedures written by other AMTDU staff, and additionally author the suite of air cargo orders, instructions, and publications used by the wider ADF. ADSS conduct their work at AMTDU in accordance with the Defence Aviation Safety Framework, which establishes responsibilities and accountabilities for the management, oversight, and review of aviation safety. ADSS contribute to the continued effectiveness of aviation safety systems by additionally conducting internal audits, maintaining design procedures, and conducting continuous improvement. Outside of AMTDU, the ADSS will liaise with Commonwealth acquisition projects, military personnel, and original equipment manufacturers to request, assess, and review technical documentation supporting air cargo certification. The ADSS must therefore be (or become) familiar with Defence capabilities and air mobility operations. Tasks are primarily office and computer-based work. Tasks may include physical assessment/inspection and preparation of cargo, which may occur in variety of indoor (hangars, workshop spaces) and outdoor (industrial workshops, aircraft aprons, aircraft cargo compartments, unprepared airfield, drop zones). The work environment may include Lifting 0-15kgs, Bending, Squatting, Excessive Noise. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The AMTDU team is a mix of uniformed and APS staff, and is comprised of engineers and technical specialists, including aircraft loadmasters, air movements staff, air dispatchers, parachute riggers, and aircrewmen. ADSS will work collaboratively with this diverse team to approve new helicopter and airdrop cargo for safe carriage on ADF aircraft. The ADSS will impart their advanced knowledge and experience of air cargo within the wider team to meet Defence outcomes. Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have: Practical understanding and experience in helicopter and/or airdrop air cargo and aviation operations. Previous experience in aviation safety, airworthiness management, and/or quality management. Previous experience in the writing and management of technical publications. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders of diverse professional backgrounds. Strong organisational skills, and be able to independently manage assigned tasks and schedules to successful completion.
