Career Medical Officer - Emergency Department Career Medical Officer Grade 1 & 2, Year 1-4. Casual positions available. The Role You will be responsible for the provision of safe, effective and appropriate patient centric medical care in a team-based emergency department. At Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN), the main point of difference for our emergency department is specialised focus on general medicine, oncology and haematology, palliative care, psychiatric and clinical toxicology presentations. If you are seeking a position as a CMO, working in a team who understands the complexity of balancing work and personal priorities, then this is the position for you. We are open to providing you with flexibility around your working hours, whether it is part time, weekends only, short shifts or school hours. We are also flexible to focus on your professional areas of interest such as seeing main floor patients and resuscitation level patients or only seeing the ambulatory care/fast track type patient or working primarily in our short stay ward managing short term emergency department admitted patients and discharge planning. There is room to expand on some non‑clinical projects for the right candidate. Duties Delivers all care within scope of practice as defined by practice setting and competence. Communicates effectively with patients, carers and members of the multi‑disciplinary team. Ensures that patients are discharged to a safe environment. Ensures that appropriate follow‑up arrangements are in place for patients being discharged home. Coordinates and oversees deployment of resources within the department in conjunction with the nurse‑in‑charge to ensure that patients are seen within a timely manner.
