Temporary full-time for up to 12 months $139,787 pa – $161,663 pa (Clerk Grade 11 / 12), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading NSW Parliament, Sydney CBD About the Legislative Council We are a dynamic, hard-working team supporting the work of the Legislative Council – the Upper House of the NSW Parliament. The Upper House is a 'House of Review', and acts as a check and balance on the Executive Government. The Department of the Legislative Council supports the activities of the House, including its sittings, committee inquiries, protocol and corporate responsibilities. It also undertakes communication and engagement activities to inform and educate the community, as well as key internal and external stakeholders. In 2024 the Legislative Council is celebrating its Bicentenary, marking 200 years of democracy, with the NSW Parliament being Australia’s oldest Parliament. The Legislative Council has a diverse and high profile program of activities and events planned to commemorate this milestone over the coming year, which will be promoted to audiences across New South Wales. The Department has three parts : the Procedure Office, the Corporate and Bicentenary (Black Rod) Office, and the Committee Office. Department staff strive to provide exceptional services to our key stakeholders, which range from the President of the Legislative Council to members of the public. Staff also work in collaboration with the Department of the Legislative Assembly and the Department of Parliamentary Services to ensure the effective running of the Parliament. About the position We are seeking highly motivated and suitably experienced Director – Communications and Engagement to join our Bicentenary and Corporate (Black Rod) Office. In this position you will be responsible for leading the communications, social media and public engagement content of the Legislative Council, its committees and the Parliament’s Fountain Court public exhibitions program. You will also be responsible for leading communications, liaising with the media and driving engagement to promote a diverse program of events, resources and activities across New South Wales throughout 2024 connected with the Legislative Council’s Bicentenary. This is a role requiring the drive, skillset and vision to connect a statewide audience with the activities of the Legislative Council and the broader Parliament during this significant milestone anniversary year. The Director will build and maintain effective relationships and provide authoritative advice to the Clerk, the President, partner agencies, members and their staff and members of the public. The Director will also provide leadership, guidance and feedback to staff and incentivise staff performance. You will be able to demonstrate relevant professional experience in communications, digital engagement or a similar field.
