Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water – Scheyville NSW Multiple Ongoing Senior Field Officer roles located in Greater Sydney, Cumberland Area – Scheyville and Bents Basin Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $76,818 to $81,370 plus 17% loading for working weekends and public holidays and employer’s contribution to superannuation Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW? About the roles National Parks and Wildlife Service has a number of Senior Field Officer roles available to work as part of the Cumberland Area team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. Senior Field Officers supervise the work of field officers and contractors to implement works and maintenance programs. Working closely with the Team Leader Field Operations and Senior Field Supervisor, you’ll join a supportive team undertaking a diverse range of tasks to enhance and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of our parks. This will include undertaking works and maintenance programs and co‑ordinate and supervise the work of Field Officers and contractors ensuring that work is undertaken efficiently and within budget and set time frames such as assist in the delivery of Branch/Area initiatives which enhance and preserve natural and cultural heritage and resources as well as the provision of high quality and safe recreational facilities for the public. This role involves working on a rotating roster and you will be required to work on weekends and public holidays. Ongoing Scheyville role - Feral predator free area at Yiraaldiya National Park To support the delivery and successful operation of the feral predator free area in keeping the reserve pest free and assisting the NPWS Threatened Species Unit in the reintroduction of locally extinct native animals. You will lead and supervise staff and contractors, volunteers and other individuals or groups in the implementation of field construction and maintenance programs associated with this project, including works involving construction, maintenance and monitoring of the condition of fences, vegetation management, roading and associated infrastructure. Ongoing Bents Basin role Maintain and construct park facilities and visitor precincts; protect cultural sites; undertake pest and weed control programmes; assist with fire management activities such as hazard reduction burns and wildfire response; and various infrastructure maintenance projects with a team of field officers. Ongoing role at Bents Basin - Bush Regeneration Develop and implement priority pest and weed management programmes and facilitate community participation in bush regeneration on park, facilitate partnerships with other agencies and stakeholders. Additionally, coordinate the volunteer bush regeneration programmes in the area, including recruiting, training and supervising volunteers, supervising the volunteer nursery and other bush regeneration work programmes in the park. About You Your life skills and practical knowledge along with the ability to plan works, operate independently and maintain relationships with field staff, contractors and the broader Area team will aid your success in these roles. You'll be a practical decision‑maker with the ability to think and solve problems on your feet. Ability to work with the Department’s statutory obligations as they apply to conservation of natural, Aboriginal and cultural heritage and resources, and willingness to exercise delegated authority for law enforcement. Demonstrated experience in the maintenance/construction of general facilities and grounds. Ability to supervise and carry out all duties safely in accordance with WH&S requirements. Ability to implement planned field and operational activities (including pest animal and plant control); and demonstrated skills and experience in fire management. Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills and capacity for working with various software programs, including ability to use the Agency’s financial and asset management systems. Relevant WorkCover Certification, ability and experience for the appropriate operation and maintenance of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance and construction work. Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent, MR Drivers Licence and ability to drive 4wd vehicles, Senior First Aid Certificate, and demonstrated ability and experience in operating MR vehicles, and willingness to fly in light aircraft. Certification and demonstrated ability and experience in operating chainsaw to at least cross‑cut level, and ability to operate and supervise in radio usage. This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW’s most precious natural places. Field applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles.
