Job Opportunity : Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our Marine team based in Sydney. This role will be initially responsible for managing our Heavy Motor program, including managing stakeholder relationship, portfolio management, account underwriting and underwriting referrals. This role requires a high level of visibility and collaboration with our Programs, Claims, Actuarial and Operations teams regarding pricing, loss ratios and program metrics. A background in Commercial or Heavy Motor is preferable, however if you are someone who has experience in product development or portfolio management and has passion for service excellence, we are interested in having a discussion with you. The successful candidate will be focused on building a positive partnership with our program partner whilst maintaining sound underwriting discipline as well enjoy working in a fast-paced, bottom line-oriented environment. Duties & Responsibilities : Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Support our program partner and take the lead in developing strategy for engagement, growth and profitability. Manage underwriting referrals from partners providing clarification, training and understanding of our risk appetite. Develop guideline and authority levels for the program partner. Develop and build future offerings, contributing towards the growth of the Marine book of business. Collaborate with the following functional areas to onboard and manage existing programs : Operations to develop operational standards with regard to policy management, premium / cash flow management and bordereaux management; Actuarial to develop pricing and monitor profitability; Legal to draft and develop contracts, policy forms and endorsements; to establish compliance standards; and Claims in the servicing of our claims proposition. Lead program audits (both annually and 90 day). Manage escalations from partners to the best outcome. Provide monthly reporting updates and analysis for the quarterly business reviews. Contribute to the development or modification of policy coverage. Qualifications, Skills and Experience : At least 10 years of Insurance experience. Underwriting experience is required; preference for knowledge and understanding of Motor risks. Experience or demonstrated capability in stakeholder management both internal and external. Strong communication skills including negotiation, communication, and presentation experience. Strong collaboration and team building skills.
